In the land of (insert cool name here), birdfolk are very uncommon. Dane was the first one that Justin and company had ever met, so they are really intrigued by him.
Dane was a fighter pilot on the military until he grew tired of it and became a deserter of war. The military began looking for him after which, so he hid for some time and ended up falling in love with Carmine and having a daughter named Juneau.
After a while, the military found him and killed his family while he was away and left him alone after that.
Upon meeting Justin, Mar and Haven, he takes an immediate liking to Haven and treats him as his own son, since Haven is the same age that his daughter would have been.
He finds out later that his daughter, Juneau, survived
Personality
Dane is self-loathing and suffers from PTSD and depression. When it comes to those he loves, he will do most anything to make sure that they are safe and taken care of.

Justin
[ Friends ] Even though they got off to a rough start, Dane and Justin ended up becoming close friends.
Mar
[ Friends ] Dane feels that he is indebted to Mar for saving his life, even though Mar doesn't feel that way. He respects Mar greatly and they are close.
Haven
[ Friends ] Dane immediately liked Haven and treats him as his son. He doesn't seem to notice that Haven has a weird crush on him.
Juneau
[ Daughter ] Dane is incredibly protective of his daughter, but not in a smothering sense. He feels bad about having been away from her for so long and thinks she doesn't think highly of him because he doesn't know her well.
Jude
[ Romantic interest ] Dane isn't the best at romantic stuff, so it took him a while to realize that Jude was interested in him. He is very grateful for Jude and doesn't understand why he is interested in him.
Carmine
[ Wife ] Carmine is Dane's deceased wife. Much like Jude, it took her a while to win Dane over, but they were very in love once she did.
