Profile

Bio

Paula is a polar bear from the Glacial Kingdom. In a world where kingdoms are ruled by Dragon gods and represented by disciples, hers is the only one with neither. The polar bears don’t even have an elemental Trabea (trah-bay-uh) -- the equivalent of magic -- to call their own. Despite this, many polar bears do their best to keep faith in the Dragons, believing that if they hold out for long enough, they’ll eventually be given a Dragon that will choose a disciple for them.

Paula is one of the very few if not the only polar bear that doesn’t believe this is the case. She has very little faith in Dragons, believing that they essentially left an entire species to struggle for what appears to be no reason. She also has the somewhat rare dream of eventually leaving her kingdom and living her life in a different one entirely. These beliefs of hers have led to her being silently disliked if not outright hated by many other polar bears, thinking that her lack of faith is why the Dragons still ignore them. Because of this, Paula does her best to ignore other polar bears, usually spending her time hiking in the tundra surrounding her hometown.

One of these hikes is the one that changes her life, as she finds a cave that she’s confident was not there previously. She enters it, being led underground until she’s brought face to face with a wall of ice. Though it’s dark, Paula thinks she can just barely make out a shape behind it and reaches out to touch it before being blinded by a flash of white light. Suddenly waking up outside of the cave, Paula thinks she somehow passed out and dreamt the whole thing, before noticing a set of footprints in the snow that didn’t resemble hers in the slightest. Following them leads her to Kago, the first Dragon she has ever met in person. In a monotone voice, he explains to her that he is looking for strong fighters. Realizing this is her chance to finally leave home and knowing where to find at least one of them, Paula strikes a deal with Kago, stating she’ll take him to them as long as he takes her with her.

Personality

Paula is not a people person. She’s not as open to meeting new people and tends to speak as little as possible to those she isn’t fond of. While she doesn’t go out of her way to be rude, she will occasionally point out behavior she considers odd and isn’t afraid to talk back to people who particularly annoy her. Paula’s tendency to push people away is more instinctual than intentional, so it can take a bit of work before she’ll consider someone a friend.

Powers

As Paula later finds out, being in direct proximity to Kago at the time of his resurrection gave her a power that mortals cannot normally attain -- Dragea. Though she would rather not have to rely on power from the very gods that abandoned her species, she eventually accepts it as part of who she’s become and works hard to make the power her own.

Dragea: Due to either destiny or a stroke of luck, Paula has become the only mortal that can use Dragea. She is still learning how to use it, but theoretically she could become at least as strong as Kago with proper training. Until then, creativity will have to make up for her lack of strength or experience.

Draconic Regeneration: Due to her Dragea, Paula can heal from any injury -- but only when she sleeps or is otherwise unconscious. She doesn't heal as quickly as Kago, and since her true body is mortal, she is unsure if this is enough to make her unkillable.

Draconic Shapeshifting: Uniquely, Paula can change her anatomy into that of a Dragon to allow the use of Dragea. She is unlikely to use more complex shapeshifting without good reason to. From simplest to most complex, she can make scales, claws, horns, a tail, and even wings, though she rarely makes wings.

Scale Revolution: Paula concentrates Dragea to a part of her body, making her scales rotate around it like a chainsaw. Similar to Kago, it has some use in both offense and defense, but she also learned to use it for mobility. If Paula makes her scales a little duller, she can use the rotation like a wheel, or even jab them into a surface and ride up and along surfaces.
