Rivki

she/her, human-turned-kenku, secondary protagonist. little BITCH!!!!

died in a getaway car crash at 17 after stealing from a convenience store, and was summoned to a pocket dimension by a lesser goddess of chaos who had been exiled there by the other gods. tasked with going on a dangerous quest to the desert of lost souls where the immortals live, in an attempt to find a way to free the goddess from her prison. the goddess of chaos offered her (and hundreds of other departed souls) the opportunity to be resurrected and have a second chance at life, in exchange for freeing her from the pocket dimension-- the catch being that only one of them can be revived, making it a competition between all the contestants to see who can free her first. Rivki is completely unaware that freeing the lesser goddess will cause the end of the world, since she conveniently left that part out of the terms of the deal. Since the deceased souls hired by the lesser goddess have no physical forms in the universe in which they have to go in order to complete their quest, they temporarily must inhabit the corpses of individuals who have already died within that world. upon agreeing to the lesser goddess’ game, Rivki’s soul was sent back to the corporeal plane in an an alternate dimension reality and temporarily possessed the corpse of a dead kenku, who just so happened to be a wanted outlaw. 

she lived on the run for the first few days in the new world, masquerading as the kenku whose body she was inhabiting. a close friend/criminal apprentice of that kenku was Eve, who, upon finding out her friend had seemingly came back to life, swore to protect her from dying again at all costs. Rivki pretends to be Eve’s dead friend in order to maintain her protection, as she knows that Eve’s alliance gives her an edge on the other contestants in the lesser goddess’ game. The two eventually stumble across Cheng, their third traveling partner, who had agreed to the goddess’ game as well, and had just woken up in his new body when Rivki found him.

Rivki herself is spunky, feisty, rude, and a bit reckless. she has a hard time getting along with (or even caring about) other people, but she couldn’t be described as unfriendly or hostile, just vulgar. she has difficulty understanding boundaries and feelings, which makes her a bad match for her more timid traveling partner, Cheng. despite that, the two fare as well as they can, spare a few arguments here and there. most importantly of all, she would do anything to stay alive. she deeply regrets being so careless and nihilistic in her past life, and is desperate for the chance to live again, despite not having much to live for in the first place.
