Antioch

hunter for hire

You all seem to know very little of my world here, though I suppose I cannot blame you. We were not an evil people; know that much, I beg. We could not perceive our own corruption, for darkness is patient and creeps slowly. By the time we knew we were overcome, it was far, far too late.

I do not believe I am here to be my star’s savior. The 13th is dead, and all I loved with it. I am not you—not a hero cast out by fate to the precise place in time he is needed. I am a refugee. Someone bid me survive, and so I shall. That is all.

ABOUT

Antioch—full name: unknown—is, by his own frank admission, a refugee from the dead 13th reflection of Etheirys, sent to the Source by an unknown power shortly before its fall. His own twisted visage and mastery over the dark magic of the void will attest to his origin, though he does not seem to struggle against its corruption at all, as if his slow transformation was frozen in time.

He speaks very little of his home, regardless of prompting, though he claims he has had no memory loss. He will, however, protest the popular vision of the 13th as a sick and corrupted place by nature. It was, he says, as beautiful and full of life as any other world, and he rejects the idea of his people as evil, even though their souls have all long since been twisted into the voidsent that now plague the Source. That said, he does not struggle when tasked with killing any of said voidsent; if anything, he considers it a mercy, and he has often been seen speaking a small prayer for the departed upon completing such a mark.

Antioch settled easily into the life of a sellsword, his own considerable skill allowing him to charge a fairly pretty penny for his services. He will generally reject requests to serve as a bodyguard regardless of the price, preferring instead the thrill of the hunt—be that hunt for monsters or men. He wields his large scythe with a deadly precision and grace that bespeak his many years of experience. He does not claim the art of the Reaper, though he admits it is the closest possible analogue. He does not summon a voidsent like the Reapers of the source, but instead uses his own considerable magic power in combat.

DESIGN NOTES

His face.

Antioch never reveals his full face in the presence of others by choice.

Orion.

Antioch’s scythe, Orion, was one of his few possessions to arrive with him on the Source. It is clearly well-used, but still in pristine working order.
