story (this is the same for Jude and Vice)
i. the island
The story begins with the destruction of the island of Cerskia and the complete wipe-out of the race. One night during the mid 1800s, the entire population of Cerskia turned to stone. No-one knew of this as no-one knew about the island except for one, who survived only because of a bracelet gifted by their grandfather.
ii. the last Cerskian
The main story occurs during the 21st century. Vice works in a university library, and meets Jude, who studies in the university. As their friendship grows they discover that they live nearby each other and they grow close. Vice tries to open up to Jude but this is cut short by the sudden death of Jude's father (who Vice is also close to). Vice discovers that the same desctruction of Cerskia is occuring to Vice and Jude's town. Vice opens up to Jude while giving him the bracelet they received from his grandfather about some of his origins. Jude takes this knew knowledge in his stride as they both discover that Jude's father had been researching people turning to stone because of his TV show - a phenomenom which had been occuring before Vice moved to the town fully.
iii. protection
Vice and Jude get closer to the truth, while involving the head librarian Miss Trevor. More people in the town get turned to stone and the trio discover the truth. The town (and Cerskia) is besieged by a basilisk. The trio set a trap. During this trap, Vice saves Jude from being crushed by falling debris, and Jude discovers the full and whole truth about Vice. Although he is slightly upset Vice didn't confide fully, he forgives him. They both share an intimate moment during Jude's father's funeral.
iv. the end
Vice and Jude defeat the basilisk together using its reflection against it. Vice brings Jude to see their home island and opens up about more feelings. Vice also discovers the truth behind the workings of the bracelet.
