Silas

Silas is part of my Hybridverse. He was born and raised out west, which in this universe still retains its cowboy charm. Bounty hunting is legal, and Silas took up that job in his teens as he wasn't fond of wrangling cattle or keen on farming. There's a rumor amongst bobcats that on the night of the full moon, the cacti roam the desert in search of water, and when they find it, they transform into cats and celebrate all night long. Silas was always fascinated by this tale and would often run out at night to see if he could catch the cactus migration.

He never quite did. But one night, he noticed something peculiar - a particularly tall and winding cactus that he hadn't remembered seeing before. Before he knew it, he was in front of its towering stem and felt his hand reaching out to touch it. One prick and before he knew it, he was home in his bed.

He chalked it up to a strange dream, but in the back of his mind he knew that it had really happened. 

As he grew older, his body began to change. He swore every year his tail got a little longer, and his fur began to fall out in places. Over the course of many years, he became blind in one eye and cacti started budding from his skin.

He became the feared Cactus Cat, one of the most intimidating mercenaries in the west. His community did not shun him as one might suspect - after all, there are a lot of strange looking folk in the west.

But when he heard stories about folk out east turning into hybrid abominations and even going feral in some cases, he decided to take his old friend Hex and see if he couldn't look into the matter himself.
