Grief is the hearts of mothers who have lost sons and daughters too soon and for no purpose. Grief is the hands of prayers whose pleas went unanswered. Grief is the voices of generations who watched as avoidable tragedies struck and blew the earth, always hitting the people who had no hands in it’s creations and never the people who caused it.
Grief lives in warzones and in hearths and hearts across the world, she is on the tongues of protestors and in the hands of workers and in the minds of mothers and fathers. She is the embodiment of fury over avoidable tragedies, and outrage at injustice, and wrath over those fallen too soon and for no purpose - to many she is a call to vengeance and action, but only to those who stay with her long enough does she reveal her true name; Grief. All anger was once born from grief, and it doesn’t forget.
Grief is the embodiment of her namesake, an aspect of humanity that has traveled the world for centuries observing its tragedies and conflicts and all of its resounding feelings. She embodies not just misery and despair (that is more her sister’s domain) but a grief so strong it bleeds into righteous anger and a need for change. She comes to those that need her most, and she is with them in their despair just as she’s with them in their rage. But her allure is dangerous, and her influence is almost intoxicating in the way that people start to crave the same conflict that created grief in the first place, and thus the cycle continues
But she doesn’t mind, quite the contrary! Grief is very fond of what she does, and she’s delighted in her centuries of life turning grief into outrage and conflict. She often comes in the presence of a woman whose face is always shadowed under an oversized hat, and whose eyes are always present and teeth always heard and sensed but very rarely seen
