A creature that came out of Hell.

Ast was not a high ranking demon. In fact, the two toned lashes on his skin and horrible magical ability just after just leaving hell implies he was either a slave or in prison/captivity while in hell. The bright blue scarring was done by weapons that deal lasting damage and highly visible scarring that can't be illusioned. He has no belly button, genitalia, or nipples which means he wasn't born naturally, not born to demons or humans, not a human turned demon

Unaware of it, his name is actually a bastardized version of his name from when he was a Roman citizen before some demonic force made his soul descend to hell. His first name in his human life was Anastatius (resurrection). Fitting.
