Despite being destined to be the next leader of the pride, Aibu is a nervous cub who doesn't feel like he has the skills to lead. He's timid and shy, easily spooked. Even his mother doubts he has the fortitude to be a king one day. However, his father is determined to pass on his reign to his blood son and tends to disregard the signs he might better suit a lower rank.
