ace mcnally

ace was an 80s pop star who gave up his fame and fortune to start over as a blues artist. he busks on street corners and lives out of his van, trying to rebuild his fame without ever telling anyone who he used to be. he's had a hard time making any sort of name for himself, though, largely as a result of his abrasive personality and outspoken hatred for the music industry.

'ace mcnally' is, in fact, not his real name, but it's one he chose for himself. 'ace' reflects his former star status and 'mcnally' means 'son of a poor man' - a self-fulfilling prophecy, in a way. 

it's difficult to get a sense of how old he actually is because he dresses like he's both younger and older than he is - he sometimes wears converse but also wears 50s two-tone shoes, for example. he complains about being arthritic, but dances around like no one's business - that sort of thing. he wears a lot of old band t-shirts and ripped jeans, and almost everything he owns is broken in some way.

almost any money he makes, he ends up quietly giving away. he lives a barebones lifestyle, not willing to take anything for himself that he feels he didn't earn, and he carries a lot of regret with him, which is clear in the songs he sings - they're all a little melancholy. he's drawn to people and craves interaction, but can't seem to stop pushing them away once they get too close. he's very afraid of anyone finding out who he used to be and becomes defensive whenever someone says he looks familiar.
