.•°Summary°•.

Apismia Spirits, (Often shortened to just Spirits) are the main inhabitant of Apismia. As the name suggests, they are (for the most part) the souls of dead individuals from various other universes. Of course as stated before, this is not always the case, as it's also not uncommon for a spirit to be born just as any other child.

The main Species that make up spirits* are Mobians, Seedrians, Inkdrians, or anything similar. Seedrian are by far the most common species, making up about 60% of the population. This is followed by mobians at 35%, and inkdrian and other species at a surprisingly low 5%. This is theorized to be because an individual that isn't one of the listed species to begin with, will only ever turn into either a mobian or a seedrian.

Most spirits are made entirely of a fluid-like energy, covered by an illusion to make them look however they like, within limit. Spirits can only take one of two to three visual forms: What they turned into when entering the universe, How they looked when they were alive (if it differs from the first form), and with practice, an illusion-less form. A spirit can only change minor aspects about these forms (bust size, height (by a few inches only), arm length, etc), but not to the point of looking like a completely different person.
Due to how a spirits body is composed, whenever a spirit is cut this energy can be seen dripping out instead of blood. This usually looks like a translucent liquid that can be a variety of colors (this color can be freely chosen by Mobians and Seedrians, though inkdrians are forced to stick to their gradient colors). Also, if a spirit trains hard enough, it is possible for them to disconnect the illusion of how they look from their fluid body.
In addition to all this, the feeling of not having a true physical body is very off-putting to most. It has been described as a floating sensation, or a constant out-of-body experience. Many spirits never get used to this feeling, so spend most of their time keeping busy to get their minds off it.

If a spirit sustains enough injuries, the energy they're made of will dissipate from the area, with the illusion that covers it crumbling into dust and disappearing. To those who are unaware, it will seem like the spirit is gone for good, however this is not the case by a long shot. When this happens, the spirit's energy reappears back in Apismia where they first entered when becoming a spirit.

A spirit's physical age reflects the prime of their life** and as such most of the population is made up of seemingly younger individuals. Because of this, it's common for spirits to differentiate between how old they look (their "physical age"), and how long they've truly existed (their "actual age").
A spirit's mental age, however, is almost always around the 25-35 age range. The only exceptions to this are spirit's with an "actual age" of ~20 or lower, as their mental age will match this lower number instead.

Half-spirits

Whenever a spirit and a living person have a kid together, the child is referred to as a half-spirit. This comes from their two states of being: Alive and Dead. (Thank you Whip for the idea!) The only real difference between these forms is how the energy spirits are usually made of interacts with the physical body.
The Alive form has this energy contained within the body, making it far easier to control, and allowing the half-spirit to exist around the living without having to worry about their energy hurting anyone.
The Dead form is, of course, the opposite. The energy freely and invisibly flows around the body, allowing the half-spirit to be much stronger, and to die in a similar way to regular spirit. However, due to the looseness of this energy, half-spirits are extremely likely to hurt themselves or others in this form.
Mastering these forms is essential for all half-spirits to do. If not, they will not be able to control which form they're in, and will inevitably hurt someone because of it. Unfortunately, unless the half-spirit has a mentor, or both parents around to help them, this can be a very difficult task.

Accidental Spirits

Accidental Spirits are quite a rare phenomenon, though should be mentioned nonetheless. In ancient times, the only way to travel into Apismia was either through death, or by following a spirit across dimensions into it. In the later case, once the person entered Apismia, they would be transformed into a spirit. This is because the outer edge turns any souls that cross into the universe, dead or alive, into spirits.
Nowadays, this problem isn't as common, as the portals leading to Apismia bypass the barrier altogether. However, this form of spirit is alive and well among 2nd+ generation inkdrians that happen to land in the universe.

*Only for the universe's main dimension. Other dimensions found within the universe can have any number of main species, many of which don't include the ones from the main dimension at all.
**This doesn't refer to being young, but rather the age where an individual felt the most confident in themselves, and/or the age they had the most fun being.

-Although Spirits don't have joints, bones, internal organs, etc. phantom pains from what the individual dealt with in life are quite common.
