Solomon is a lobster-style fish man. He's currently living on an island called Wayward Isle (it lives up to its gloomy name). He's acting as a liaison between humans and fish people (in the story, Wayward Isle has made a pact with Fish Man Island for safe passage and citizenship for any fish people who wish to live on Wayward Isle). It's not the most interesting job but he's chilling. Solomon has always been a very laid-back (some would say lazy) person. Content to sit back and enjoy the flowers type, he's coasting along when his life gets turned upside down.

Umi is a solo merchant, travelling on a small one-man ship between islands in the New World. She's tough, as a one-woman crew needs to be. Already well familiar with the Grand Line, she's set her sights on the New World. Wayward Isle was just supposed to be another stop, quickly sell, trade, and buy before moving onto the next island. She wasn't expecting to get so intrigued by a random fish man but she found herself interested despite herself...

Both are utterly crazy for each other. They fell hard and fast. Solomon's only other love interesting didn't love him back so he has a few hangups about that. But he's utterly devoted. Umi hasn't had many serious relationships, happy enough with a couple short flings here and there. For her, Solomon is someone different since she's never felt this way for someone before. There's some ups and downs where their still working out the kinks, but both really want to see where this is going.

Umi arrives to Wayward Isle and wants to sell at the marketplace but because of a rare day of sun, the market is closed. She decides to go exploring. Umi is good at swimming and has heard that there's several underwater tunnels so she decides to go exploring. She ends up, quite literally, bursting into Solomon's home. They end up hanging out and Umi is intrigued by this fish man who immediately takes in a stranger, gets her to shower to warm up and dry clothes. Umi decides to come back and see if she can spend more time with the strange man.

They start hanging out and Umi ends up spending more time than she expected at the Isle. Eventually she knows she has to leave and so, with her heart in her throat, she asks Solomon to go with her. It's crazy, they've known each other for only a few days but she's never felt this way before. Solomon says no but surprisingly, asks her to give him a year. He needs to wrap some stuff up but once it's all settled he'll gladly follow her anywhere. So for the moment, they are long distance with Umi stopping by Wayward Isle sometimes so they can spend time together.
