Salamast is not a particularly pleasant character. At best he is loyal and immensely protective, determined, and tends to portray an upbeat demeanor. At worst he is vicious, single-minded, and ready to strip flesh from bone (and then probably consume it).

Never having been one for close interpersonal relationships, the only constant presence in his life is that of his sister, Veyrashk. Although not as close as they once were, Salamast still views the two of them as inseparable soulmates. His love for her borders on incestuous obsession, although he isn't overly concerned--or concerned at all--with the ethics of the relationship.

Considering his very strained relationship with his now deceased parents, Salamast actually really likes children. He seems to bond with them better than those his own age, perhaps due to an underdeveloped emotional intelligence. He likes kids so much, in fact, that it isn't uncommon for him to unofficially adopt street kids and take them under his protection. He's extremely protective of his wards and will stop at nothing to provide for them and keep them safe. However, he also uses "his" kids in his rather extensive drug-dealing operation. After all, no one suspects a bunch of tykes.
