Wolpa

Wolpa (curved black horns) and her mate/wife were part of a little commune on a little plot of land. Everything was fine and they had everything they needed, and then the other Aurusalkar (that's their species) decided to start tapping magic out of the earth. They took so much magic that their once lush home turned into an arid desert. Food was scarce, and all the Aurus began to suffer.

The council came up with a plan: they'd make portals to escape into another dimension (later named the Void Dimension) and return when everything was fixed. However, only the ones deemed "worthy", with powerful magic, would be allowed this chance. At first, Wolpa and her wife didn't want to go. It seemed wrong to escape after so much destruction. But things got desperate, and the idea of escape started becoming more enticing... One thing, though: everyone in the commune was deemed worthy except Wolpa, whose magic was seen as "weak". Bitter, she decided that if she couldn't go, no one else in the commune should be able to.

As things became worse, Wolpa's wife went behind her back and decided to lead the commune through to the Void Dimension anyway. If four out of five of them survived, that was better than all dying. Her betrayal made Wolpa snap, and she attacks her in an attempt to kill her. Wolpa is stopped and left for dead.

Refusing to be defeated, she gets up and attacks again, when a huge crowd of escaping Aurus arrives. The portals are closing soon, and everyone is rushing to get through. Wolpa and her wife get separated, with Wolpa being swept into the portal against her will. The two make eye contact as it closes between them.

I wanted to make it clear that no one in this story is a wholly good or bad person! They all did terrible things out of desperation. They were starving and trapped in a dying world, and their actions reflect that. Things are not so black and white!
