Baru is a former SHIELD Agent that serves as an antagonist to other characters in an AU called the ACA. She is a handy fighter who focuses on hand-to-hand and strategy, but can be blinded by her bitterness and anger.
She is disabled, she has a spinal cord injury that consequently gave her nerve damage, chronic pain, and limited mobility without aid. She has scars on her back that reflect the initial injury, as well as a scar on the left side of her chin.
Baru is serious and quiet. She comes off very apathetic much of the time, her pain and exhaustion making her far less caring of anything other than her, Ava, or her job. She’s bitter, sharp, and angry, but not in a loud way. Despite this, when she sets her mind to something she is dedicated and hard-working. She follows orders well, and can compartmentalize. She is extremely loyal to Ava, and eventually Bill Foster and the Ant Fam. Although an excellent fighter, she is a diplomat first and has a way of diffusing situations. Unfortunately, when she is working for SHIELD some of that is beaten out of her, her pain making her lose some control over her usual poise. She can be quite a bit patronizing when she believes she is in the right, and will often not even deal with people she disagrees with or annoys her. She has a “me against them, and us(her and ava) against the world” attitude and in her mind she is often the hero and victim of the story, which makes her isolated and a bit of a misanthropist. Over time when she begins to heal, post SHIELD and when she joins the Ant Fam, she starts to come out of her shell and although she’ll always be very serious, she lightens up and begins to trust and love others more.

An Unlucky Teen
As a young teenager, Baru's car would be struck by a truck and she would break her spine. Even after the initial injury heals, she is left with pain and and weakness that stumps her doctors. Her relationship with her family becomes strained, so when she turns 18 she leaves on her own to try and find a doctor who can help her. While she isn't able to find a doctor, no matter what big city she tries, someone else does find her. After recieving (more) bad news from a clinic in New York, she is approached by a strange man on the street, who offers her a business card with an address.
SHIELD
Desperate and out of other options, she goes to the address and finds herself seated across a desk from Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD. He tells her that he noticed her situation, and offers her a unique proposition. In exchange for joining SHIELD as an agent for a new pilot program that are initiating, called EXO, they would "fix her". They would take away her pain, and give her her mobility back, through new technology and treatment. With seemingly nothing else to lose, she signs the contract and joins SHIELD. Her basic training is a bit different than other recruits, as she doesn't meet the physcial requirements to join in the first place. Instead, she does her training while testing the experimental tech that Fury had advertised. This includes exoskeletons, braces, and other advancements on what had once been simple devices. When she starts getting her footing, they introduce her to her mentor, a woman who is part of a similar iniative called GHOST. This woman is Ava Starr. Ava is a few years older, but went through the same things as Baru, and their initiatives are Similar. Ava teaches her how to be an agent through the pain, and they count the days together for when that pain will be gone, and they'll just be agents. Soon, they realize that it won't be happening. Ava and Baru do SHIELDS dirty work, and in return SHIELD doesn't cure them, keeping them complacent and dependent on them for treatment. Ava and Baru grow bitter, and soon only rely on each other. Ultimately, despite the contract they had signed, when Fury resigned from directorship and hands the title to Newt, Ava and Buru decide to leave.
A New Family
Upon leaving SHIELD, Ava and Baru only took what they absolutely needed to get by. Ava takes her Ghost suit, needed to keep her alive, and Baru takes the exo-skeleton that was built for her. She has her old SHIELD uniform, but she tears all of the patches and insignia off, a hate for the organization growing. SHe and Ava travel to California, where they will attempt to get the particles needed for Ava's survival. After intense fighting and clashing with members of the Ant-man team, it seems like Baru and Ava will either die fighting, or waste away without the particles. This is when Mey approaches Baru with an alternative. She wasnts to help them, and she can't if they all keep fighting. Baru recognizes that she's right, and convinces Ava to at least give it a try. Ava and Baru join the Ant team, get the help they need, and become part of the Ant-Fam.
