Marked Souls
When humans die, their soul leaves their physical body to get marked by The Judge. During Trial, The Judge looks through the soul's entire life. How they lived, and how they affected others, and everything is seen by The Judge.
After looking through the soul's life, The Judge will come to a fitting sentence towards the soul. The soul will either enter paradise in heaven, living a fulfilling and good life, and can pass in peace. However, souls doomed to damnation will be sent to hell in punishment for their crimes in life. The mark remains carved into their soul. More info can be found here.
