In the far-off town of Avalon, there was a small village in desperate need of a hero.
The king was a self-centered recluse who would force taxes and taxes until the money was drained out of every pocket and the quarters from every child's hands.
The kingdom was poor as poor can be, and their money as taken again and again by the greedy monarch. It was a hard life, but it was livable - or more like survivable-- a kind of life where the fathers labor for hours on end just to keep everyone living. They lived in the technical sense, blinking and seeing but on the inside they were all empty.
And so they continued breathing.

A monster, some sort of curse, upon witnessing the unjustness of the kingdom, brought his anger upon the town. It was a punishment from the gods, is what the scared villagers would say. What was it really? A dragon. Every palace needs a dragon. To protect the people.
That's just what the dragon was here to do.

Everything burned.
Flames, fire, heat, fire, flames -- light, sparks. Fire would sweep over everyone and everything and erase them like they never existed in the first place. And people got angry - they wanted the king to do something he had to ... do something - do - anything - something ..
people were dying and houses burnt by the fire's breath and the king watched it all from his royal throne at the top of the mountain - he sat and watched the fire kill the people from the inside out.
He wasn't doing anything to help the people, and that's when they became mad. They stopped looking up at the king and listening to him when he told them they were living and they stopped the cycle of breathing and breathing and being empty and being dead

And somehow there came to be a prophecy. The words were forced out of the mouth of a wise old wizard by the money of the king. He wanted to keep people happy, so he gave them hope. Hope, in a longing sense. That someday something would get better. He tricked them into thinking they were happy ... or not happy, but alive.
 Breathing.

the sun will set. the savior will come.
and Vengeance came.
