Emmett stands over the average human at 6'0". He is heavily built, with fat distributed all around his body (particularly at his torso and thighs), but has quite a bit of hard muscle underneath.

• Emmett is a trans man. This ties into why he is cagey about his past.
• Emmett does not disapprove of things that are unlawful but not evil (i.e. petty theivery).
• Emmett has a strong sense of honor, and can get a bit self-righteous at times.

⇀ Background

Noble Variant: Knight

Emmett is the oldest child of the Mannering noble house, who gained their status through proving themselves heroes in battle. They are a house of royal knights, and place honor and chivalry at the highest possible priority. However, they are still quite concerned with noble appearances; they keep a fairly large amount of wealth to themselves and are very involved in courtly activities (political/financial marriages, attending balls, generally rubbing elbows with other nobles, etc.). The current lady of the Mannering house intends for all her children to become knights, and put each of them to combat training from the day they could carry a training sword.

⇀ Family

Emmett's mother, Majidah Mannering, is a wizened old woman from whom Emmett learned most things he knows about being a knight. She is, and has always been, the embodiment of grace and chivalry, and was deathly serious about her duties as a knight (or paladin, in her specific case) right up until the moment she resigned. She took on training Emmett in combat once he had a handle on the basics, and presented him with his first horse at the age of 15. She has always been a believer in learning through failure, but in turn is a bit hypocritical about it, as she often berates her children for any kind of failure. She switches between a lack of understanding and hyper-empathy at seemingly random intervals, and as such Emmett has always seen her as unpredictable on top of being rather stern.

Emmett's father, Jakob Mannering, is a middle-aged elf who has sat in the lap of luxury his entire life, and has a bit of a superiority complex as a result. He was put through knighthood mostly in attempt to "whip him into shape," but was still pampered throughout the experience. He is the wealth of the Mannering family where Majidah is the chivalry, and they were married to each other in an attempt to ally their previously split families (which actually worked quite well, and they still get along alright at their worst). Emmett and Jakob have never had a particularly strong connection; Jakob didn't understand him as an uncooperative child and continued to not understand him as a rebellious adult. He spoils his youngest children and ignores the oldest, which frequently caused rifts between the Mannering siblings.

⇀ Important Moments

• Emmett comes to understand his own gender after dealing with his self-repression. (Age 17)
• Emmett comes out to his parents as a trans man. They do not react violently, but completely fail to understand and, out of ignorance, bias, and panic, tell him to keep it to himself. (Age 24)
• Tired from years of being repressed and refusing to spend the rest of his life living in the closet, Emmett says goodbye to his sisters and flees his household for good. He takes his gear, his horse, his small belongings, and some money, and sets off to get as far away as he can. Once he's ridden a good distance from the manor, he tears the flags of his house off his and his horse's armor. (Age 28)
