A kind and cheerful tom with a seemingly infinite amount of optimism to share, Duskbreak is unwilling to let any being suffer misfortune as long as he is alive to put an end to it, be this emotional or physical. Deeply empathetic, he seems to embody the traditional ValleyClan cat in his tendency to care too much; he has a penchant for idealizing the people around him, looking up to them, putting them on a pedestal. (Someday, he wants to be the one that others will look up to. He wants to be someone great.) Overall kind-hearted and pleasant.

Perhaps one of Duskbreak's most distinctive traits are the remnants of his former lifestyle. He takes things in a very kittypet-like approach, except instead of everything being a game, everything is a puzzle. Everything – everything – needs to be figured out, delved into, dissected. Highly intelligent with a high-level thinking capacity. Inquisitive and methodical, he deeply enjoys taking things step-by-step and understanding them. He is prone to excitement when there's something new around him, a fresh puzzle to solve, but this hinders his caution at the very worst of times. Willing to do anything for the pursuit of truth and knowledge, for better or for worse. Enthusiastic about these passions, perhaps scarily so. (How far will he go?)

Duskbreak is often struck by crippling moments of insecurity. Forced from his home for not meeting any breed standard and unwilling to bear the consequences that would come with such a thing. Even now, though his litheness and dexterity prove a ValleyClan staple, there are very few who truly mirror the coloring of his pelt, the over-exaggerated angularity of his features, the foreignness of his heritage. This translates to a timidity that often carries over when interacting with anyone beyond his close friends, though even they may experience such. Nevertheless, he remains a reserved and polite demeanor despite any company.

When in combat, however, Duskbreak's nature seems to take on an entirely different turn. Though he will only resort to violence if there's no other option, he will rush head-first towards danger to protect another. Surprisingly brash and abrasive when confronted with matters of physical brutality. Being held back or being told no are things he abhors, and this can tie into a nature entirely too self-sacrificing. Strong-willed and diligent. He just wants to help, though his actions may not align with this.

History

Located in the suburbs of the ice-stone place, the Cattery Catio – an upwalker cat breeding place that focused primarily on munchkins, long and short-haired orientals, and bengals – is where Duskbreak (known then as BH Webster Online), and his siblings first opened their eyes, the illicit products of an affair never meant to be.

An accidental mix between a bengal sire and a short-haired oriental dam, a pairing that only occurred as some cats escaped from their specific areas one day and found themselves enamored with the other, QVC Wrought Iron and BH Hermoine's Charm soon found themselves the parents of seven separate kittens – crosses illegal to show.

BH Webster Online, the baby of his litter, was one such of these kittens. Alongside his littermates, while they each proved pleasing in coloration and frame, breed standards dictated that as cross-breeds, they would never be able to be entered into any of the prestigious shows that every other member of the Cattery Catio would swoon and preen over – the shows nearly the very reason for their existence.

This soon became a source of ostracization for Webster and his siblings, one that proved insidious. Disgraces, they were called.

Webster – with the coloring of his father yet the build of his mother – along with many of his other siblings, who did not wholly match any of their parent breeds at all, faced especially harsh treatment. However, to make it even worse, little Webster also started developing a strange white spotting for seemingly no reason at all – one that burst across his frame in haphazard, unsightly speckles, and would only continue to grow larger as moons passed. This would only double the sentiment of Webster besmirching (cursing) the cattery with his presence, whispers harsher than ever.

Webster was told to be a monster. Deformed, ugly. On top of it all, as he grew old enough for the realization to sink in that he didn’t meet any breed standard, jeers shifted into taunts – he was going to be gibbed, he was told, perhaps the cruelest insult of them all.

Certain days, Webster would hardly leave his assigned little area, unwilling to face the consequences that would come with such an act. His siblings (and only some) were the bare few that stuck with him, stayed by his side, but he didn’t know if they would ignore the whispers for long. Didn’t dare risk it.

Most of the contempt came from the orientals and bengals of the facility, the two breeds that Webster shared blood with. But the munchkins… were nice. Surprisingly so. They defended him. Urged the others to leave him alone, gave him the confidence to leave his nest for more than the bare necessities. One of the munchkin queens, Merriam Lou (formally known as HKC Pictionary, who had transferred from another cattery), soon took on the mother-figure role that BH Hermoine's Charm had abandoned as soon as her kittens were old enough to be weaned off milk.

In what seemed like hardly any time at all, Merri also became his best friend.

Merri knew that there was no true life for Webster in the cattery that wouldn’t end in heartache. She encouraged Webster to go, claw and squeeze past the woven wall that separated them from the outside world, and be free. She believed in him, and knew how smart he was – even then – and how he could do anything he put his mind to. Join the wild cats, she urged.

So he did. And he did. Though he regretted leaving her behind, she could never survive in the wild like he could.

Webster stumbled upon ValleyClan before long, and he soon took on the name Duskpaw. He now works diligently to prove that he is worth more than the circumstances of his birth.
