About

A trained spirit caller and hex breaker, Sasha travels the countryside with his preternatural companions keeping the balance between the ethereal plane and this one.

Though some criticize his choice of companions, Sasha insists Hatzi and Kesi play vital roles in his work. Few realize the extent of their companionship or the greater powers at work that intwine their paths.

Background

Born the fouth son to a royal line, Sasha was never destined to wear a crown. While it would have been easy to live the life of royalty, never bearing the weight of leadership that his eldest brother one day would, fate had other things in mind.

Pestilence crept through the land when Sasha was a child and few whom it crossed survived in its wake. It was a sudden thing, Pestilence. It gave no warning when or where it would strike and soon crept its way into the palace. Sasha remembers playing in the gardens and then his vision swimming just before his mother shouted his name and everything went black.

Not crowned, but still a prince, the local clergy of a half dozen gods and goddesses came to Sasha's aid. Each was no luckier than the last as Pestilence dug its claws into his heart. As the days slipped by and Sasha's vitality with them, the king's chamberlain began the somber process of preparing the prince's tomb when all hope seemed lost.

Then Sasha's weak heart began to race.

Later, rumor would spread through the kingdom. The queen mother's prayers were answered. Or perhaps something else had heard her pleas. Or, however unlikely, the king's claims of divine heritage were true.

Whatever the true case, the story of Sasha bolting upright in his bed, screaming like a banshee with ethereal white light glowing in his eyes, spread like wildfire.

Mirrors cracked, windows shattered, winds whipped through his bedroom. And in the center of the maelstrom, sat Sasha, eyes wide and lost, half his soft chestnut curls turned white, and all signs of Pestilence gone.

Misc
  • His illness left him physically weak well into his adulthood and he still struggles to overcome the grip Pestilence had on him
  • He spent much of his teen and early adult years training a temple far from home to control and use his powers
  • He primarily channels his powers through a spirit orb, though its rumored the wandering priest's singing voice can reach beyond the veil itself
  • Though he has only known Hatzi and Kesi for a few years, he has felt their connections to him since he was a boy
  • Sasha is the 7th out of 8 children and the 4th and last born son

About

It's not often you find a deva who has abandoned their divine watch, it's even less often you find one travelling with a mortal and an inferni. But Hatzi has always striven to exceed expectations.

Now, Hatzi has come to find they rather like the colorful ways of mortals and all the strangeness that comes to them in their short lives. Moreso than a deva probably should. Definitely moreso than a deva should in the company this one keeps, but Hatzi would do near anything to keep Sasha and Kesi safe.

Background

Time is a funny thing as a deva. Hatzi knows they've walked the planes for millenia, but the exact number is fuzzy. Mortal time is strange and so impossibly quick, what use does a deva have in learning their clocks and calendars when they can blink and miss life times?

Long since tasked by the will of beings greater than themself, Hatzi has watched for centuries and more, keeping balance between the planes. It's only recently they've started to keep the time as well.

Drawn to a scream that piereced the veils, Hatzi has found themself pulled into the affairs of a single, infinitely small human soul. Rather, it should have been small. It should have been a single anomaly they measured and checked before returning to their ancient watch.

Now stuck on the wrong side of the veil, Hatzi has kept close to the mortal who called them with dozens and hundreds and countless of questions swirling about the prince-turned-priest.

Misc
  • Hatzi continues to refuse to understand mortal concepts of time and is constantly and notoriously late for all things
  • Their patience in spades is probably the number one way to infuriate Kesi
  • Though they have only recently made Sasha's formal acquaintance, they have spent the better part of two human decades keeping creatures like Pestilence away from his temple
  • After The Incident of Sasha's youth, Hatzi has found their mortal form consists of more than just their own being — some aspect of Pestilence is carried inside them

maybe we could make him a deal

About

An inferni conducting business among mortals is not uncommon, hells, mortals sing songs of it. But an inferni refusing to sign new deals and traveling with a deva and human? Well, any of his kin who wish to speak behind his back best speak quietly.

Regardless of the circumstances that brought him to Sasha and Hatzi, and oh are there many, Kesi will be the first to admit his life has improved with them in it. But oh does he want to deal with those circumstances personally.

Background

Meticulous is the polite word said of Kesi by those who fear his wrath. Every contract and scroll and soul has a place and Kesi knows them all blind. And woe to the lesser inferni who forgots.

So for a contract to appear in his collection that he could not recall was, to say, unlikely. For said contract to bear three marks, including his own? Unheard of. Impossible. Except he held the scroll in his own hands, tested it with his own magic, and here it was with nothing but a ringing in his ears to herald its arrival.

Passing off the contracts of lesser deals to his cohorts, Kesi has spent the better part of two decades trying to decode the mystery that fell into his life. In that time, he hates to admit, that very little has come to light save for the identities of the other two marks: a human, just a child at the time, and yet even more unlikely, a deva.

Regardless of the contract that ties his hands, Kesi finds himself drawn to the orbit of these two beings. Abandoning his keep in the lower realms, Kesi aims to settle the mystery plaguing him and them for these last decades.

Misc
  • Can materialize the wings at will, often only bringing them out in combat
  • While he doesn't shy from his inferni nature, he refuses to show Hatzi or Sasha his true form
  • Always smells like a burnt match no matter what form he tries to take
  • Despite near perfect memory, Kesi knows he's encountered Pestilence, but cannot for the life of him remember where or how
  • He has yet to disclose this shortcoming with either his companions
