Hanesawa

Hanesawa is first seen taking a train on her own for the first time while on the phone with her father, reassuring him that she'll be fine. Shortly after, the train car, along with Hanesawa, Ryu, Yumeto, and Tou, is transported to the Digital World. During this, Hanesawa can be seen tearfully clinging to Tou.

In the Digital World, while the others have met their digimon partners, Hanesawa is informed that her partner is still an egg. Hanesawa is shocked and disappointed by this, but agrees to wait for her partner anyway.

Because she lacks a digimon, Hanesawa mostly hangs back and relies on her intellect to get her through the situations that arise during the adventure. Because of this, Hanesawa is appointed the leader of the group after Ryu’s pessimism nearly makes the group crack under the pressure, while Hanesawa’s more even, objective outlook helps them stay calm.

Due to a nefarious Sangloupmon's interference, Hanesawa ends up separated from the group. Sangloupmon hunts Hanesawa through the Dark Woods, wanting to eat her digi-egg. Sangloupmon eventually corners her, and offers to be her digimon partner if she hands over the egg. Despite being cornered, Hanesawa refuses to give up her egg. This act of courage causes the egg to hatch, revealing her partner, SaberLeomon, who defeats Sangloupmon before devolving to Frimon.

Liollmon is discovered to have a rather assertive and arrogant personality, and is ill-tempered which causes her to scuffle with the other digimon at times. Hanesawa finds herself overwhelmed by Liollmon’s brash behavior, causing her to doubt whether or not she made the right decision in choosing Liollmon as her partner. However, Liollmon eventually confesses that she retains hazy memories from her previous life, where all other digimon were indoctrinated and became evil virus types. She admits that she feels uneasy around the other digimon as a result of the betrayal she experienced then. Hanesawa comforts Liollmon when she tells her that they are on the same side and that they will always have each other's backs. Liollmon agrees, and begins to make an effort to befriend the others.
