About
Mari is a member of the Scout Regiment and a former member of the 104th Cadet Corps, where she ranked 18th overall. Her tragic past led her to joining the the military for a chance to fulfill her parents' dreams of the outside world and possibly discover the truth of their deaths. She is known as a particularly emotionless girl who clung to Marco before his passing. They both originated from the same town of Jinae, where they originally barely knew each other.
Her skills on the battlefield are just above average, but her true defining trait is her drive to complete her goals. Whether selfish or for the greater good, Mari is wholly motivated to seeing her goals through. If it weren't for her lack of communication skills she would be able to easily accomplish this with the help of her comrades.

Story
The Fall of Shiganshina Arc
Mari was born and raised in Jinae, in Wall Rose. While she grew up in the same town as Marco, they never interacted, however they knew of each other. Her parents always talked about the world beyond the walls, saying it was their dream to explore all the places that they don’t know about. They were good about not letting their ideas leave their house, but word spreads one way or another. While a guest was over at the Vohn house they noticed the books about the outside and overheard Mari’s father whispering to her about it. This guest reported it to the Military Police, and soon came people with foul intentions for the family. Mari’s parents were killed right in front of her by assassins, and she only escaped by hiding in a cellar that’s not obvious to most people. She hid out for two entire days, afraid to confront the situation she just witnessed, and worried the assassins may still be waiting for her. After two days her aunt visited the home to find the dead parents and Mari missing. She called out for her niece, who finally emerged from the cellar, in shock but not crying. After this incident, at 8 years old, Mari went to live with her aunt. Through growing up, she constantly questioned why her parents were murdered, and her sentiments towards their dream grew stronger in her.
Humanity's Comeback Arc
She wanted answers, and to fulfill their dream, so when she was 16 she enrolled in the military with plans of joining the Scout Regiment. This path would allow her to not only venture beyond the walls, but also secure her safety if the higher ranked MPs found out about her joining the military. While as a trainee, she met Marco finally, and they became close friends, always talking about their hometown together. She admired his loyalty to the king and his selfless existence, as that was something she knew nothing about. They spent most of their free time together. She wasn’t great at making friends due to her stoic nature, but Marco helped her connect with the other trainees in the 104th, like Sasha and Christa. Mari graduated just below the top ten, which pleased her as it kept her low profile and the Scouts didn’t require the top ten.
The Struggle for Trost Arc
During the Battle of Trost, she was faced with fighting titans for the first time in her life. She was stationed with Sasha’s group, so she stuck close to her friend’s side, afraid of being killed. The two bonded during this incident, making sure the other was still alive. They made it out alive, but the same couldn’t be said for Mari’s closest friend. Once she heard of Marco’s passing, she was devastated, but as peers would point out, did not react at all. They knew of her emotionless personality, but still wondered how this event triggered absolutely nothing in her. She went on to join the Survey Corps as planned, and stuck with Sasha most of the time.

- Mari is surprisingly very good with kids. Despite speaking monotonously, every kid she interacts with seems to like her, and she is good at keeping them occupied and happy.
