Shimmer Vale is blind in both eyes. He lost his vision in a magical attack, but no one knows exactly what attacked him. He was in the forest gathering herbs, when he was struck.

Shimmer Vale makes homemade pickles, jams, and more. His special talent and cutiemark are related to canning.

He takes his work seriously, and he even lives above his produce shop. He has a greenhouse, where he grows a majority of his product himself. He also uses his magic to help him identify herbs and other plants.

He is a bit of a shy guy and always has been. After his attack, he began to interact with other ponies outside of his store less and less.

He was also quite the avid reader before the attack. So that he doesn't lose his passion for reading, he uses his magic to have books read aloud to him.
