really his given name is Otto, but he hates introducing himself so he always growls whilst doing it, and so after many misunderstandings Otto just deals with being called Grotto LOL
he's the conductor of an inter-dimensional, world-hopping train, providing safe passage for all sorts of passengers through the void. he was originally put in this position as retribution for something but honestly he's been at this for like 1,000 years and secretly loves the job. the gods of their respective worlds used to scorn him but now they love him since he wrangles in all the beings who aren't in the place they're supposed to be and take them back. he hates every single one of the gods, obviously. he takes on many bounties for money so that he can keep train rides free for everyone.
he met porter geist when the poor kid was thrown onto his train with a curse and no designated place to go. meeting is still in progress but now they just fuck around together like a father-son duo and rock the shit of inter-dimensional criminals with their inter-dimensional train. it'd be cute if they weren't both emotionally constipated and somewhat batshit crazy. they have their occasional bonding moments it's okay
