Shayun Ragara (not his given name) is a terrible, selfish prick of a rabbit who keeps doing nice things for people almost purely because he's not used to getting praised for anything and laps it up like a dying man in a desert finding a puddle. left the wood partially for pursuit of power, and is extremely open about this aspect of this. it's often unsettling how casual he is about how purely selfish his motives are.

he is by far too petty for his own good, despite his superficial politeness.

Shayun would murder a man for unrestricted access to a library and it is Known. He loves books and learning more than he does power, he just tends to use his knowledge to make himself the most powerful man in the room. He's also casually extremely vicious and tends towards outright bloodthirsty, though that's a part of himself he tries to keep under wraps; it is extreme enough that it even unsettles him at times. Of those who know of him, only his closest companions are aware of his more violent tendencies.

Despite his... everything... he is genuinely a deeply loyal and devoted friend if someone manages to breach his emotional defenses and he is genuinely devastated if bad things happen to his few friends that he feels he should have been able to prevent.

In addition to the new problem (in his view) of the Echo, he sometimes has vague, fuzzy memories of another world entirely dissimilar to Hydaelyn. Before he left the wood he assumed it was from the outside world, but nothing he has seen in his travels matches it and it's left him more confused. He even named his chocobo after the only name besides the one he took after leaving that he remembers... though he tends to use the nickname of Jaybird for it regardless.

Before the Calamity, he was romantically involved with a Roegadyn scholar and conjurer. His meeting with the man was actually what caused him to act on his desire to leave; he was immediately enamored with the casual bravery and strength of a man who was willing to walk into known Viera territory in pursuit of knowledge. They were inseparable until he passed from a wound that he had allowed to fester in order to help others, and for a long time Shayun completely shut out any kind of empathy in order to prevent the same from happening to him. He's recently loosened his deathgrip on that a bit, which has been helped along by his deepening relationship with a certain elezen knight. (Losing Haurchefant would break him as badly as losing Denningil did. He is forcibly ignoring this axe hanging over his psychological neck.)

He does not talk about what uninitiated contact with the Dark Knight crystal after he first arrived in Ishgard did to his brain, but it still happened and he still has to deal with the effects--Fraj Sjadarwesfv (his Esteem's name) is a fairly constant fixture of his life, usually just as a vicious if well-meaning disembodied voice, though when he's severely stressed there's a visual component to the hallucinations as well. The whole darkness thing leaves him uncertain how much of Fraj comes from the job crystal's previous holders and how much is purely his own head.

By the standards of Viera men, he is short, just barely reaching 5'5", though he mitigates this a bit with his insistence on wearing two inch, minimum, heels. He's delicate and pretty, and emphasizes this with brightly colored cosmetics, but the greyish pallor to his skin still leaves the overall effect as "somewhat unsettling" (which he quite enjoys). His hair and fur is a very dark purple-and-blue, and he still keeps it in elaborate braids despite his distance from home. His ears are on the short side, for a viera, which still means they're only a bit shorter than his forearms. He's severely nearsighted, and wears glasses whenever he can manage, though even with the aid he's still nearly blind in his magenta eye. His natural voice is high, in the alto range, but he's spent decades training himself to exclusively use his lower registers while speaking. The fur on his ears and tail is extremely dense, and require careful grooming to prevent matting. He usually styles his hair to cover them, but he has a pair of horn buds at the base of his ears--the sole physical sign that he was once a Woodwarder.
