Detailed Background:
Raymond was the result of a fling between Oracil and Verse, before Oracil ever met The Ranger. When Oracil learned of the kit’s birth along with his twin, Lymric, he quickly retrieved him and raised him alongside Marisol with Ranger in the village. Raymond was always a curious child, usually getting into trouble just because he had to try something or find something or do something. He often was taken along on the many, many misadventures his sister went on. When his curiosity was satiated, he was very reserved and kept to himself, usually reading or drawing. The Ranger didn’t really know how to connect with a kid who was so wrapped up in fictional and nonfictional stories and got excited about telling them to him or a kid who got excited doing math (Ranger swears Pidge is a bigger influence on him than they think), so Raymond didn’t connect as strongly to Ranger as he did his biological father. Although as he grew up, his stand-offish nature and stubbornness is absolutely the result of being The Ranger’s son.
Raymond always dreamed of being in the city, as even though the village was peaceful, he hated the bugs, eerily quiet nights, and limited resources it had. When he felt of age, Raymond ventured into the city, eventually securing a neglected apartment and getting an accounting job. He struggled profusely, often going many nights hungry and barely scraping by with bills and rent, although he never would admit that to his fathers. He wanted them to be proud. To look at their boy’s independence with the same pride they looked at Marisol’s.
Eventually, while on a day off of work, Raymond meets Mintaka, an advocate for a faction on a distant island. Mintaka was instantly interested in Raymond because of his diluted aurubi blood and ambiently pushed for Raymond to visit the island. It took him a while to decide, but Mintaka promised his hunger pangs and money issues would vanish, and that was rough for Raymond to give in.
