Firstly the name, yes yes, I know it is Bruno's 'courageous' self name, but I really like the name!!
Also, please note that he already got his gift since birth.
Back story:
Hernando is from another Encanto, the Luna Encanto.
Luna Encanto has been around for a very long time and is one of the biggest and strongest encanto families out there.
he is the 73rd generation children of the family. Their magic source is the moon. Legend has it that the goddess of the moon herself saw how the village where the Luna family lived, was suffering and shed magical tears to the their bloodline to help them get stronger
to survive and help the people of their village.
Thus the Luna family was born and established.
Luna Encanto is larger and almost city like, almost an entire realm of their own.
Despite being born in such a legendary family, Hernando had always been out casted.
Due to the reason that his mother and father was that of a forbidden love.
At five, his father who's gift was turning wood into water, and was more of a housework kind of man, was tasked by their family to 'hunt'.
And the Luna family being strict and brutal in it's way of things, simply said that it was to be his punishment.
If he survives, he was to be forgiven. If not, His wife was next.
The next night. The death of Hernando's father was announced, but the family simply brushed it off and even said it was well deserved.
That night, Hernando's mother killed herself before Hernando. She slit her throat, blood splattering on his face. She apologized to him before doing so. She could apparently no longer take the harsh and abusive treatment of them in their family. and despite loving her son so dearly, the loss of her husband broke her.
After that. The whole family treated Hernando as if he was but a mere ghost. He was being fed and left to continue using his mother's room. But that was it. Everything else, he was on his own.
The next year, he would try to go to town where people would actually take care of him.
But when he started telling people about cheating husbands / wives, thievery, and other things he saw in current time, to the people related to them, they started to feel uncomfortable. Until to the point everyone just wanted him to shut up and just. Disappear. And because of his 'gift'. He could see how people's faces would become that of anger and disgust once they turn away from him. Eventually, they're afraid to even hide it anymore and just, started treating him the same way his family would treat him.
A ghost.
At his 8th year of age, he starts camping out more often. Away from the Luna home.
Although still taking food there as he's not very good at hunting yet. He still has to practice.
Years pass, Hernando would learn archery and would be very good at it. He would learn how to produce fire, build his own tree house, eventually camping out more and more often to the point of almost living there.
He would go out to town trade certain hunt for medicines which the people just, give him for free just to keep shoo him away quickly. He would do this multiple times and people hated the thought of him even coming to their city, so they would build a shrine like box made out of wood with his photo on it. Putting in baskets the things he would always go to the town for. As if some offering to keep evil away. And the breaks him every time.
At 10, With the feeling of loneliness and isolation being too unbearable. He had a desire to be in a place that which is warm and welcoming and happy.
That's when he saw the Madrigal Encanto. Watching their lives as if a movie, to cope with the everyday constant feeling of sadness and loneliness.
He would learn to read mouth movements to know what the people would say for his gift can only see and not hear.
He would learn their names. Their everyday mission in town.
He would also discover a kindred soul. The being Bruno. He knew what Bruno did, and the loneliness Bruno was feeling. It's as if, he was seeing himself.
The multiple times Bruno had thoughts to end his suffering, Hernando would cry.
When Bruno also made the 'Hernando' character, Hernando himself found Heartwarming. At least, someone out there thinks that the name Hernando is worth using for a strong brave character.
Hernando would watch the Madrigals a lot through the 10 years, if nothing interesting was happening, he world drift off to different parts of the world.
Going his own Imaged adventure. Even learning new things. New cultures, new stories of 'plays'. Books. Just learning about the world while still being isolated in the Luna encanto, but fueling his desire to leave more and more.
Until he does decide to leave, After witnessing to how Mirabel healed and saved the familia madrigal in ending up like Luna encanto.
His heart raced in envy. How he wished his family could be like so. But he knew. He knew it can never be.
So he decided to leave. Despite the Luna matriarch not allowing ANYONE to leave encanto,by being the one to control the barrier, Hernando was allowed to. As if finally telling him, in his face " thank the moon goddess you finally decided to leave. "
With that one last heartache, He finally left the prison he had been in for years.
Reason he stayed was he always hoped, that his family, would one day, wake up, and realize, how horrible what they did was, and would welcome him back in the family.
Would realize how horrible they were to his mother and father. How his mother and father was kind people. Good and loving parents to him. How, he, is there. and the he exists.
Such a childish fairy tale dream now that he looks back on it.
So he set upon a journey to encanto.
Thank fully because of his gift, he knows how to navigate to the place. Avoiding any eyes on him.
After all, it's not everyday you would see such a young man with a very light colored hair.
He curses his family for such hair color. Having clear (white ) colored and light ( silver / grey ) colored hair was the indication of one being a Luna bloodline.
Once Hernando reaches The Madrigal encanto, It's as if he was finally free, far far far far away from that dark cold family.
He then would see Bruno and Mirabel whom would see his ash colored hair, knowing that he's not from around there.
With how warm everyone feels in this encanto, Hernando cries.
It was a while since anyone
had approached him with such kindness, warmth and acceptance.
Getting acquainted with Mirabel and Bruno, or just real people in general, Finally making a friend was so overwhelming to him that he would always cry meeting / getting introduced to new people.
He only wish they would still accept him once they know where he came from.
And what his family was like. Now that i'm don typing the story, let's proceed to other tidbits.
- Hernando giving people information / warnings about what he saw at the moment was his way of trying to prove himself to his family. Only for it to back fire. Everyone found his ability creepy. Thinking he was also spying on them when doing sexual things, also calling him a pervert.
- He tried multiple times to get his family's attention by making a mess at his home, but one of his family members having super speed, would just quickly clean it up and would start filling his room with garbage to 'learn' his lesson never to do it again.
- He would even make noise and try to beg for someone to talk to him but a family member with teleportation ability would just teleport him away with her and only her coming back home.
- Even if he does nice things they would still ignore him.
- perfect grades at school? ignored.
- perfect archery? ignored.
- being good and kind and helpful to everyone? ignored by not only his family but also the town / city
- cooking for his family? they would throw away his food in the garbage.
- no matter what he does. It was ignored. His existence was ignored.
- only started being able to use his gift properly after his mother died.
- Julieta would later on heal his eyes, the first time he saw colors, he cried because he said it was so beautiful.
- He stutters a lot when talking, after years of not knowing how to communicate properly.
- He would speak in a polite childish manner, his voice tone, very soft and gentle.
- He's easily embarrassed.
- he covers his eyes with his hair ( like a h-ntai protagonist lol )
- He has a mode in himself where he becomes serious and focused and that's when he's hunting.
- He's not very talkative anymore about the current events he see using his gift. Afraid to make everyone think he's gross and creepy.
- He can communicate with Dolores despite being far away from one another using their gifts.
- His eyes glows a very light icy blue when using his gift.
- Due to his parents. He has a second gift. Still yet to be discovered and awakened to.
- He has very strong feelings for Bruno due to the feeling of kindred spirit
- He also has a slight puppy crush on Mirabel because oh her bravery and strength.
- Dolores becomes his good friend, the only one he would share gossip with.
- The Madrigals despite being horrified and disturbed with his origin and story, they couldn't help but feel care for him. Abuela even offering him to be part of the family.
- He's tempted but doesn't accept at first. but when casita shifted and sprouted a new shed like mini house further back in the house, with a blue glowing blank door, casita saying that was 'apparently' for him. ( casita also being unsure for this was a new occurrence. he accepts. Although he still uses his Luna last name in honor to his mother and father.
- Luna encanto magic color is blue hues.
- Hernando's body is full of small scars here and there.
- He's very shy around people, perhaps way too much that if left alone by the Madrigals, he would slouch, hide his eyes and just have a shrinking feel to him. As if wanting to become invisible.
- Camilo teases him a lot.
- Julieta loves cooking for him after seeing how much happy expressions he can make, every dish she makes, an entirely new heaven to him
- Hernando has this childlike curiosity and innocence to him.
- The way he handles everything that isnt hunting mode, he does in a very gentle way, as if afraid to hurt anything or make a mistake.
- Has some naivety in him that makes him look like a completely day dreaming airhead.
- He and Bruno apparently can combine their abilities when connected ( holding hands ), Bruno could see and explore future events and the places they will hold in, more clearly as if being there at that current moment.
- He and Dolores can also fuse their gifts when connected. They're able to have a full audio available with Hernando's watching gaze.
- Is a very adventurous boy at heart. Although only if those he hold dear comes with him.
- He is a crybaby. Forgive him. it's been a while since he has been shown love and warmth.
