his hair gets a bit longer whenever he goes underwater (chin length) and they are very very shy
Copper and his parents (Argo and Auntine) lived in a drying up river in the desert. (Same desert everything else is in because it's huge) The people there had to resort to eating larger quantities of their young children (Since fish lay way too many eggs in the first place), but Copper's mother decided to keep one alive and raise it as her own. Soon, almost all resources were depleted and they didn't even have enough to partially raise their young to get food. They sent a few people on a scavenge to find anywhere else they could live, and one came back with knowledge about the town Oliver was worshipped in. Everyone decided they had to take all they had and walk towards the town when Copper was around 2 years old. Once they arrived, they received approval to live there, but needed to wear small fish charms somewhere on them so everyone knew they couldn't come in contact with the ocean/salt water. The fish people still needed cleansed water though, so Oliver decided every Wednesday to hand out fresh water. Everyone that came to the town was pushed into worshipping Oliver as their god as long as they wanted water, though.
Argo became a sailor and Auntine stayed at home to raise Copper. Copper slowly became resentful of Oliver for various reasons, but still took part in all of the religious stuff if he had to. Soon, Auntine and Argo noticed they were running out of water quicker and quicker, so Auntine and Copper had to beg on the streets for cleansed water while Argo was at sea. Everyone started to get annoyed of this soon, and called them ungrateful for all Oliver had done for them. Everyone decided to chase them out of town while Argo was still at his job. Copper and his mom were terrified, and she hid in a shallow cave with Copper to try and escape them. It worked, but now they were stranded with barely any water in her bag. They began walking and just hoping some place would eventually pop up, but nothing ever did. Copper and his mom got extremely dehydrated, and Auntine suddenly fainted while they were travelling. Copper tried his best to get her back up and walking, but she just wouldn't no matter what he tried. After an hour of dragging her dead body around waiting for her to get up, he gave up, grabbed her bag, and decided to go off on his own. He eventually came across an abandoned scuba helmet next to a small pond. He filled it up with water and has been wandering for around 3 1/2 years since. He's found a few ship wrecks, cool stuff, and random trinkets scattered around. He's never spotted Oliver now that he's out of the town, but the chances of that happening are just getting higher every day.
