Profile

Chip a 12 year old half-Denisovan human boy from somewhere in Eurasia 10,000 years ago who in two separate universes is caught up in time/space paradox situations.

His older brother "Flint" was named similarly. Their true names in their (dead) native language mean the same as their English translations and both out of character and in modern settings they are referred to by the modern English equivalent names. Unfortunately it's impossible to tell what their language could have been so I decided rather than guess I would depict them through a translated lens. This works out for Chip because most of his story in both separate universes take place outside of his home time period and he has socially adapted to modern human communication.

It's never specified what the other half of Chip is, but judging by his distant relation to other characters in Parody World it's safe to say that it's homo sapiens.

Chip is named as such because he has a prominent chipped front tooth and presumably because his older brother was first named Flint.

Chip also is the character name/identity assigned to my Jellycat "Winston" mammoth and several design choices in human Chip (dark reddish brown shaggy hair) are based on the stuffed animal. The anthro mammoth version of Chip has one broken off tusk, the right one same as the tooth human Chip has a notch taken out of.

Heart of Darkness prequel ideas:

Chip was originally going to be a minor character in a hypothetical prequel to 1998 video game Heart of Darkness. The story would reveal that the Master of Darkness was abducting and preying on human children by bringing one into his own dimension every total eclipse of the sun for far longer than one might expect as Chip ends up being taken after disobeying his brother while trying to achieve his first successful independent hunt during the eclipse. Flint would have then attempted to go after him and accidentally tear open a spatial rift between Earth and the Darkland substantial enough that spectres could get through. This is caused by the material that his spearhead (which technically also applies to Chip's hand axe but this is never utilized) being made from rare meteorite iron, and the properties of this meteorite also having magical affects on the stability of the Darkland akin to the Magic Rock meteor in the official Heart of Darkness game.

In order to stop spectres from wreaking havoc on humankind Flint fights through hordes of spectres in order to make his way back to the rift in an attempt to rescue Chip and close it again, which would be the majority of the gameplay and story. After sustaining a fatal injury once in the Darkland from fighting the Master, Flint has to make the choice between trying to find Chip (who he isn't aware is still alive) or closing the portal and therefore saving the rest of humanity. Flint chooses the latter and back on Earth later succumbs to his injuries.

In-universe the brief spectre invasion is a significant factor in why all other human species save homo sapiens go extinct.

Chip turns out is still alive, as the Master of Darkness has intentionally put off killing him for fear that his spectres may eradicate all of humanity and he would be without prey. After the events of the theoretical game the Master ends up keeping Chip alive forever, frozen in age and functionally immortal because he's aware that Chip is the last remnant of the Denisovan species which the Master had a preference for above homo sapiens.

It was a potential idea to continue Chip's plight after the events of Heart of Darkness in which the Master's defeat allows Chip to escape the lair and he is integral to helping the Amigos survive the resulting ice age caused by the disruption of the natural order following the dormancy of the black hole.

Due to Chip occasionally being in contact with the Master's other captives he has a somewhat knowledgeable but ultimately vague and skewed understanding of human languages and cultures since his own time period, predominantly from the eyes of extremely frightened children that he only ever gets to converse with in very slight amounts. Chip is also fluent in spectre language which if ever a playable character, would allow him to have an added mechanic to better avoid spectres pacifistically which would balance the fact that he doesn't have a light/energy based attack.

Much of Chip's mental state is deteriorated from literal thousands of years in captivity but memories would come back over the course of being free. Fortunately for him the Master of Darkness avoided too much psychological or physical torment due to him being the last of his kind and not wanting to irreparably destroy him but he did not come out of it entirely unscathed.

Parody World TTRPG:

In my friend group's Monster of the Week game Chip is my player character belonging to "The Exile" class. This is how he is seemingly magically transported to the present day (1999) where the rest of the cast naturally comes from. By wandering into a dimensional passage into the earth. Flint is Chip's canonical sibling in Parody World but presumably the events of the HoD prequel story idea are not canon and Flint lived out a more normal life in the past. Chip is distantly but directly related to several other characters in the setting and this is likely through Flint's bloodline.

Chip is not fully aware of just how far away he is from home and his family or how seemingly difficult it is to get back. He is extremely independent and is well capable of being apart from his brother for weeks if necessary. Additionally Floyd has adopted him as if he were his own son which alleviates what loneliness does slip through. Chip is incredibly captivated by the modern world and has developed a particular fondness for ska music.

There's something in the rulebook about Chip having a nemesis. What happens with this is ultimately up to our DM but I'm willing to have Flint potentially have been killed by this entity if Will wants and is reading this *wink wink* for like, additional angst. Although I do like the change of pace where I have Chip living a relatively enjoyable existence in Parody World.

Chip has befriended and adopted a man-eating plant that was convinced to drink milk instead named Charlie, who can talk, two technically haunted old rag dolls, and a plant serpent. In Parody World, Heart of Darkness is a successful film franchise (and his plant serpent was created for merchandising via genetic modification) this can be assumed to mean that his original canon in no way applies. Chip presumably was separated from his brother in the interdimensional rift that took him to the present day and was never held in captivity. Chip owns pieces of Heart of Darkness merchandise such as a branded flashlight.

I will update this as more happens in Parody World. I don't want to just fill up a wall of text just with everything that's happened in the very first sessions.
