Xiaodan is a psychic, particularly having abilities revolving around dreams, thoughts, and sleep. They can create, shape and manipulate the dreams of others or himself, which includes modifying, influencing, suppressing, sensing and observing dreams, as well as nightmares and daydreams. This can include past dreams, but it depends on the other person's emotional state at the moment. They can also produce and modify dreams, bestow lucid dreaming or nightmares, entrap people in REM or sleep paralysis, or promote spiritual and/or emotional healing within dreams. They can also read minds and mildly alter memories. Their staff helps to direct their abilities, although they can still preform them without it. Their staff can also produce a pink cloud for him to sit out, and can emit a pink mist which has an extreme calming effect on all who breathe it in, sometimes even instantly making people fall asleep.

Xiaodan used to be a fierce psychic warrior for the celestial realm, and he obtained immortality through the peach of immortality, which they were given as a reward for a successful mission. They were born with his psychic abilities, and, since it is very rare and considered a blessing, he felt as if he had to be a warrior, or else he would be 'wasting' his gift. They had a lot of pressure on them, but they eventually gained the courage to say that being a fighter isn't what they wanted, and quit, despite many celestial beings considering him selfish for doing so. They now reside on Earth, which they first went to on a mission.

They no longer use their powers for fighting anymore, despite being very powerful. He loves the art that humans make, and he loves relaxing, sleeping, making music, and drinking warm drinks, and they plan to just chill out for the rest of their eternal life. They're very sleepy, relaxed, and naturally friendly in nature.

As-of the show, they work as kind of a therapist, of sorts, to the main group, after being introduced to them by Sun Wukong, because God knows these characters need it. Xiaodan works as a therapist, of sorts, for many celestial beings, actually. Their ability to read minds and promote healing through dreams makes him naturally very good at it. They don't just limit themselves to helping the heroes, though; his naturally friendly and trusting nature makes them open to also helping villains' mental states. Their calm nature, and willingness to try to understand, makes them even a friend and help to very cruel or closed-off types, so long as they are willing to try to heal.
