wait, wtf is with this oc?

roscoe is an oc i created in 2013-2014, when i started getting into superwholock. as a result, his story used to be part of those stories, as he was a fursona/self insert.

nowadays, roscoe is just an old oc. his story, though stupid and written by a 14 year old, is important to me, so i wish to write down the summary for it. it is jumbled and not very coherent, but for me it is a funny trip back to 2014.

the story
the lightning dog

roscoe lived a simple life as part of a pack of dogs. he had a mate whom he loved, friends, everything a wild dog could ask for. until a landslide claimed his life, that is. he died next to his comrades and ended up in hell. it was unknown to him why he had ended up in hell, but it mattered little. hell was in the business of creating more demons. to what ends, roscoe could not figure out.

he befriended a fox named terry, whom had arrived to hell at the same time he did. hell was not a friendly place to either of them. the demons were aggressive, and so were the other new arrivals. ros and terry quickly learned that the longer a soul was tortured, the less time it took for them to become a demon too. roscoe resolved to not become a demon, and to keep terry safe as well.

between getting beat and trying not to, roscoe met a german shepherd named acerior, ace for short. ace seemed to have everything - he was respected, no one attacked him, the demons bowed to him, and on top of it all, he did not seem to be a demon. roscoe courted ace, and ended up in a relationship, eventually.

roscoe proved to himself, terry, and even ace that he was a nosy little fucker. he managed to find out information he was not privy to, namely that ace was not just a simple dog. no, he was the king of hell, the one who wore the title of opposer - satan. and ros was just a plaything. no matter. it was smart to be liked by such powerful dog, he told himself.

what was the purpose of him staying with ace? with such a horrible dog? he could not answer such question. all he knew was that he did not want to become a demon. but maybe it wasn't so bad. terry had started to let it happen. she had started looking like a demon. subtly at first, but now it was noticable. by the day she was becoming more like the demons, and she did not want roscoe's aid. she would not hear of it when roscoe suggested he ask ace to help. there was naught to do about it.

over time, ace ended up sending roscoe on different errands. the most important one was a task roscoe did not fully understand: in order for ace to walk on earth, he needed a body to inhabit. the dog who lived in this body before ace would never agree to allow ace's conscience to posess him, unless roscoe would convince him to. therefore, roscoe was to be sent back in time, to when the body was born, to "teach the young puppy what was right". ace would come back to get roscoe immediately, and it would be as if they weren't even apart. roscoe had no choice but to accept.

once back alive, though living a different life, roscoe had no idea how to find ace's body. his king had never even told him the body's name, just a vague area which was too large for him to completely explore. in his wanders looking for ace's body, he ended up stranded on an island. it was unlike anything he had seen before. monsters hunted dogs, and dogs had to defend themselves, with no outside help.

roscoe had quickly integrated in a pack on this island, and learned of their legendary prophecy about the lightning dog. the pack never said what this dog was meant to do, nor what the lightning symbolised. he shrugged it off, it was a silly distraction from his goal. he started believing it impossible to find ace's body.

one day, a great storm struck the island. dogs were panicking, running amuck, and roscoe was trying to get everyone out of danger's way. a lightning had struch their shelter, and it caught fire. all had evacuated, except for 2 puppies and their sick mother. roscoe rescued the youngsters, but he could not get the mother out in time. upon closer look, roscoe found his quarry: one of the puppies looked exactly like ace. he swore to protect both of them, and gave them names. cyril for his quarry, and phinny for his brother.

for his bravery, roscoe was named alpha of the pack, and rumours had started that he was the lightning dog. they spoke of the lightning marks he had on his face, failing to notice he always had them, and it was not lightning that granted power. one of his first hurdles as an alpha was dealing with a fox family. the monsters had injured the parents, but their cub was somehow spared with minor injuries. he took her in, and learned her name was terry. suspiciously similar to someone else he knew. the pack did not want a fox among them. they had no choice but to submit when their alpha commanded them to care for her though.

cyril was growing into a loyal and kind dog - nothing like ace - phinny was a skilled hunter, always eager to help his pack, and terry was learning to be the cunning and rebellious fox he had met in hell. the realisation dawned upon roscoe that he couldn't let terry die and reach hell. ace said roscoe was currently in the past, so he had the duty to at least try to change their futures.

trying to prevent a horrific future from happening was taking a huge toll on roscoe, and he would not listen to anyone's advice, not his dear blueberry's, not terry's suggestions, not even his right hand man's, cyril's. day by day roscoe grew more weary, more upset with life, more bored of waiting for ace to come back so he could face him. roscoe had made up his mind, he would not allow ace to take cyr away from him, and he would not seal terry's fate.

most had come to think of the lightning dog as senile by the time ace was on the brink of reappearing. most except for terry and cyril. roscoe told them that he had learned "the truth". a dog came to him in a dream, said he was ace's older brother. that he was to take over phinny's body, as ace wanted with cyril's. he would put away ace once and for all, he said. his children were skeptical, but chose to humour their father.

the monsters on the island were attacking the pack more and more every day, and they seemed to increase their numbers steadily. roscoe could only assume war would come and that ace's hellish powers were behind this. he had arbitrarily decided it was time to send his two precious children away, since his desperation would not allow him to wait for ace's brother to show up. the two agreed begrudgingly to leave, not actually intending to go too far.

as the monsters attacked more often, the pack fought back harder, though lives were lost. it was a big pack, but no death was easy. hidden from the pack, cyril and terry got into an intense argument, and they both ended up being poisoned. cyr bargained with ace that the king of hell would save terry, if cyril agreed to allow himself to be posessed. ace did not hold up his end of the deal, and he let terry die.

phinny had allowed ace's brother to posses his body, but it was already too late. everything ended up as roscoe saw it before this journey. most of the pack was dead, and the lightning dog died unceremoniously in the struggle, his attempt to change the future futile.

due to the non-chronological nature of the story, some things should be made clear in the narration: ace was aware whom ros was from the very start. this is because he saw roscoe in the real world, before he stole cyr's body. he also probably had access to cyr's memories. roscoe's first life and second life end around the same time, though they are of different lengths. terry was friendly to roscoe in hell because she thought that was her father, but that he had forgotten her. whether roscoe tried to explain time travel to terry or not doesn't matter, because terry would think him too senile to believe him. hell was creating demons because they barely gained ace's body through war, and they needed to rebuild their forces. (will add more if i remember more)

the story, but in the s*pernatural universe

this story was originally meant to take place in the s*pernatural universe. roscoe has always been a shapeshifter, and the hell plot was thought up before i learned of the purgatory in lore. ace is lucifer, his brother is michael. why are they dogs? i dont know! i was 14 and couldn't draw people.

in this version, roscoe willingly betrays lucifer after realising that maybe serving satan is a bad move. he asked michael to help with terry, but i don't remember what his answer was. although lucifer ends up posessing cyr, roscoe is somehow (i assume because lucifer loves roscoe Oh So Much) able to trick him into falling into a trap that him and michael set up, thus sealing lucifer in his cage, ready to emerge in season 4 of the show.

after these events, roscoe bitterly walks away and lives the remainder of his life until meeting the winchesters. he is in dog form when dean hits him with the impala, and due to an injury, he can't change into another form, nor can he speak human. in season 4, castiel heals this injury, and roscoe gets the chance to come clean to the winchesters about being a shape shifter. also he was dating sam because i liked sam. hijinks ensued.

the 2020 revamp

the 2020 revamp is how i would write the story now if i could bother. i like to think it would be a sitcom.

roscoe's charisma and intelligence stats are switched. he is now no longer a himbo, he is just your regular maths teacher. he is extremely unhappy with his job, but feels he can't quit. terry is his daughter from a previous marriage, or his niece he got custody of because of deaths in the family. she is in highschool and acts as teenagers do. roscoe allows her to make her own mistakes, but always supports her when she's in trouble. they sometimes have lunch together at school. the cyril adopted son thing is already weird, so it is scrapped in this. cyril is a young policeman in town. phinny is a trans man named phineas and is only an episodic character.

in a desperate attempt to make his life feel like it's worth living, roscoe summons a demon, who happens to posess cyril. this demon reveals himself to be satan, and seems to find great amusement in laughing at roscoe's misfortunes. ros is unable to find a way to send the demon back to hell and be rid of him. satan is very much harmless, since roscoe is his master and won't let satan harm anyone. satan tires to flirt with roscoe, and roscoe is unimpressed, since he's already dating blue. further hijinks ensue.

the small town maths teacher now has to balance his shitty job, alcoholism, babysitting satan, his daughter's reellious phase, and his own depression as a final boss. in the end ros quits his job to pursue his piano passion, finally goes to therapy, satan leaves, and terry graduates and goes to college.

terry
adopted daughter

the pack was never very excited about having a fox in their midst, and thus treated terry poorly and excluded her from many activities and gatherings. roscoe always made a point to the pack out of treating terry fairly. many times, he has gotten her out of trouble when she was a cub, and now in his old age, terry keeps an eye out for her father as well

roscoe is very attached to terry. he puts in a lot of effort to try and bond with her, due to their friendship back in hell.

terry challenges ros' decisions and leadership, and roscoe feels very proud of her daughter for being so strong-willed.

she is rebellious, has a strong sense of right and wrong, and is more than willing to fight for those she loves. unfortunately for her, she often hurts her pack and her family by accident during her escapades to do "what is right".

cyril "cyr"
adopted son

due to being his quarry, and the one ros is supposed to protect, he has always kept a close eye on cyril. cyr has been nurtured to grow into a strong dog from the very start. to roscoe's surprise, cyril's own will always kept him kind as well.

cyril always looked up to his father, and ended up with a strong sense of loyalty to roscoe, and of duty to protect their pack. these qualities made roscoe certain that cyril was the right choice to be his second-in-command, even though he knew cyril was meant as a body for ace, and nothing more.

cyr's blind loyalty to ros can be troublesome, sometimes making him lose his temper when his father's sanity is questioned. he has the best interest of everyone in mind. he is usually a calm listener, preferring to observe his pack rather than to converse.

phineas "phinny"
adopted son

phineas got the short end of the stick in roscoe's family. fortunately, he didn't mind this in the slightest. phinny does not get involved in most of cyril's drama with roscoe and terry, preferring to remain with his friends in the pack

phinny is very extroverted, excitable, and a great provider of food for the pack.

satan "ace"
abusive ex, employer, king of hell

ace is a charmer. he possesses great strength, though he prefers to keep it hidden. his preferred method of convincing people to do his bidding is sweet-talk.

his relationship with roscoe is not a healthy one. ace can get violent, and is literally satan. he tortures dogs in hell. he is mostly interested in the physical parts of their arrangement, but plays along to everything else in order to keep roscoe happily obedient.

he does not find roscoe to be exceptional in any way, but is intrigued by him in hell. not many dogs went to such lengths to avoid becoming his demons.

this is a healthy relationship. roscoe loves the grumpy man.
