Cats hold a special place in the Otherworld. Some are able to freely travel from there to the mortal world and back again. However, most can simply see the liminal doors and disguised monsters for what they really are, only destined to step foot in the Otherworld for their remaining 8 lives after they die. Casper is one such cat, known as a Stray. Strays are not part of any old lineage of magic or renown, and seen as low and common by most. Yet, somehow, Casper was the one picked to be the familiar of the Otherworld's princess, Samhain. While he knows he was picked rashly as an attempt to rebel against tradition, Casper takes his role as familiar and protector seriously.
