♡ Personality - Though he acts cocky and snarky, he's actually a nervous wreck on the inside. This was typically only expressed while he was alone at home, but his loss of humanity led him to lose any walls he had. He now speaks like one would expect from a shy kid, voice scratchy and cracking slightly on certain words, occasionally even stuttering. This gets a little better as he spends more time in Inscryption.
♡ Appearance - As Scrybe of Beasts, Louis is made up of several different animals. He has the legs of a fox, the tail of a squirrel, the body and neck fur of an Elk, the ears and horns of a goat, and the teeth of a carnivore. The only exception is his hair, which is made up of several leaves.
♡ Background - Louis used to be a 14 year old TCG prodigy who was almost a celebrity among his crowd. He made his way through the ranks remarkably quickly, playing against many adults in card game tournaments both big and small with an amazing grasp on strategy and quick thinking despite his young age. He loved every aspect of the hobby, from deck building, to meta, to opening new card packs.
One day, he got a strange email from GameFuna, the company approaching him with an offer to play test their new - decidedly digital - TCG. He was... initially quite reluctant, enjoying their games but still preferring the feeling of physically holding the cards in his hands. Louis agreed in the end, however, and quickly found himself enjoying the games' mechanics; namely those to do with Beast cards. The idea of sacrificing one card's animal for another was interestingly morbid for a simple TCG video game.
He moved through the game at a good pace, ignoring the strange, almost coded messages in the Scrybe of Magicks' dialogue. Facing off against his chosen Scrybe - Leshy - he blacked out just as the scale tipped all the way down to the right...
Only for the poor boy to wake up to a pair of paws for hands.
- He's significantly taller than the average 14 year old, so he often lied and said he was a short 16 year old. Louis' height only increases once he's Scrybe of Beasts.
- Lived with his aunt and uncle, who were old-fashioned and hardly cared for his "fame".
- No one knows why the only foilage on his body is his hair; Grimora suspects it has to do with age, while Po3 believes it has to do with his affinity for Beast cards.
- Loves the Prospector's dog.
- Since he has digitigrade fox legs he can easily walk on all fours if he wants/needs to. This was his main method of walking for a while while he got used to balancing on his toes.
- It's a struggle for his tail to uncurl completely. Neither he nor Leshy have any idea why this is.
- Can perfectly imitate a lot of animal sounds- particularly howls and growls.
- When highly emotional, his pupils gain the orange swirl Leshy is known for in Act 1 and his sclera yellow. The visibility of this effect depends on the intensity of his emotions.
- Coincidentally, he watched youtube channel "Lucky Carder" as part of what got him into card games.
Luke has nothing to do with the game in this au. - One of his favorite things to do once he becomes a bit more comfortable is to ride one of the elks living in his forest.
- Like Marlow, Grimora is sympathetic to his situation and is generally quite nice to him, believing he's been robbed of life by being removed from its cycle. He enjoys spending time with her and her ghouls, who all appreciate the life he brings to the Crypt. He also reminds her of Halloween.
- PO3 constantly puts him, his deck, and his strategy down, Louis constantly beats him with Beast cards. There are times where P03's insults seem mostly directed at Leshy, however. He can't help but wonder if there's a reason the Scrybe targets him with his mockery the most... P03 at least appreciates that Louis doesn't hate Technology cards and finds its mechanics interesting.
- Louis thinks the Prospector is a bit scary, what with how loud he talks and how erratic he can be sometimes. He likes his dog, though, and the dog seems to like him back to the point of answering if he calls. He also likes to sometimes see what the Prospector digs up.
- The Angler weirded him out at first, but Louis slowly came to be okay with him as he got used to being a beast himself. The Angler is saddened by Leshy being replaced, but doesn't let it get in the way as he knows he's still within the code. Likes to bring Louis what he catches even if he doesn't need him to find the OLD_DATA.
- The Mycologist isn't quite one of Leshy's subordinates, but they knew the Scrybe and often dealt with his beasts in their experiments. Louis himself is uncomfortable with them despite their attempts at being friendly. His current state - being made of multiple animals rather than plants - makes their experiments especially uncomfortable to him.
- With both of he and the Lonely Wizard being so young, the two of them often race around together during Lonely's time off from his lessons. This and Lonely Wizard's enjoyment of how "stimulating" his new body is are part of how Louis slowly became comfortable with it. The two are somewhat bad when dealing with each other's trauma, however, and one breaking down may unintentionally drag the other with them... Lonely Wizard's teacher may need to step in at that point.
