Being outcast his freshmen year, Makkel has always been reclusive and in the background. It's not that he's shy, he just doesn't like talking to others much. If there was one thing he was able to express himself in, it would be writing. He takes pride in his stories. Having no friends, Lucas, his first friend and bus driver, was able to make Maka open up and feel better. Due to that, Maka was able to talk to people more, but is still the most open with Lucas. 

Backstory

Growing up with only his mother, Yume was always around more 'girly' things, such as makeup, cute clothing, and stuffed animals. This made him interested in them, so he started to crossdress at a young age, though he would never do it at school. The people who found out that he crossdresses made fun of him, but that didn't stop him. That's why he goes by the name 'Yumi', posing as his own twin sister.

His sleeping problem started young as well. He would sleep for very long at one time. This did make school hard for him, but he has learned to control it a little. He later learned that he had hypersomnia, which makes excessively sleepy during the day,
