Gryphon became a god in a rather odd manner, In his younger years he was rather ambitious and strong, constantly striving to improve himself and be the very best. Now this may seem to be a normal, even good, thing to do, but in Gryphon's case... not so much. He would fight, lie and use underhanded tactics to take out opponents stronger than him so that he would be able to stand at the top. His strength and ambition drew the attention of Lukos, who attempted to offer Gryphon the position of an angel. But Gryphon did not accept, rather he attacked Lukos and after an epic fight, he lost. This had been a huge hit to Gryphon's pride, he became angry, believing that if he could ascend to godhood he would gain the power needed to finally take out this opponent. After much thought, Gryphon came up with a plan. He shifted to his human form and built a temple to himself, he advertised to everyone that there was a new god, a dragon god by the name of Gryphon. He advertised that this was the god of pride and strength, a god who would take on opponents deemed worthy of his strength. Over time, mortals began to arrive at the temple with their problems and wishes "There is a large drake terrorizing my village, please take care of it" and he would "a parasite has taken control of a harpy and it is destroying everything in it's path" and he would go take care of it, "I wish for a happy love life" and he would cringe and send the person away with a "this god does not deal with wishes such as those".

After years of fulfilling these wishes for the mortals who sent him their prayers, Gryphon realized that he had indeed become much more powerful. He soon realized that some of the prayers he was answering were not from his temple. Confused, he began to search around and discovered two other temples dedicated to himself. He had been receiving the prayers from these temples, straight to his own mind in fact. Gryphon quickly made his way towards Mt. Aureus, he would make an attempt to pass through the barrier there. Successful, he was faced with a beautiful and rich city, gold, silver and precious materials made up the buildings, and he sensed that the beings around him were especially powerful. Upon his landing, he was drawn to a building with his own name upon the nameplate. He had truely become a god and now resides within Mt. Aureus. He still fulfills the prayers of mortals when he deems them worthy of his strength, but as one of the strongest beings alive, it is no longer very entertaining to fight mortal beasts. He often spars with Lukos, and although they are not on the best of terms, each of them enjoys the fight and being able to let loose their power on occasion.

Gryphon’s “angels” would be better classified as sparring buddies. They are made up of individuals who showed exceptional feats in battle or in strength who Gryphon wants to keep around for his own entertainment, sparring with the same people over and over gets boring, so he’ll grant them extended life and more power so that they can constantly improve.
