Gelmew

Bio: You can call them Gelmew or just Gel. They don't emote much, so they seem serious and mysterious. However, they are actually pretty playful and like playing tricks on other creatures. Although they're made of gel, they have a protective smooth and squishy membrane that keeps them from leaving things wet.

Pronouns: They/It (genderless)

Type: Gel / Psychic

Abilities: Levitation, transformation, invisibility, telekinesis, teleportation, demanifestation

Main Forms: Gel Mew, Gel Vaporeon, membrane-less, body-less

Gelmew

General

Standing with their feet flat on the ground (not on tiptoes) Gelmew is about a meter tall. They have a clear, smooth, stretchy rubbery skin that's up to an inch/3cm thick. They're filled with a thick, viscous translucent teal liquid. They have a core that can be in any part of their body, but is usually in their head or abdomen.

By default they have no internal organs other than their core and eyes, otherwise they are just gel and membrane. They can morph parts of their body and create pockets in their body that are lined with the same rubber material. The gel can leak out if they're punctured, but they are able to patch small wounds fairly quickly. They can also make topological holes (goes all the way through) their body, as well as openings in the membrane that expose the gel inside without hurting itself.

Gelmew's body can easily withstand blunt force, but is vulnerable to laceration and stretching of the membrane. When cut or torn, it takes them a while to heal. If needed, they can teleport out of their body to escape a dangerous situation. However, they will have to construct an entire new body, which is a time and energy intensive process.

Their body + gel has a higher index of refraction than water, so they are visible underwater.

Membrane

Their skin membrane is clear, but the teal liquid inside makes their whole body appear teal. The membrane is similar to new latex or silicone, being smooth and extremely stretchy. It acts like a solid but can melt into itself when gelmew changes shape. When it's too far from the core it dissolves into a clear liquid and quickly evaporates.

The membrane is constantly cleaning itself somehow and feels perpetually slick, however it leaves no residue on anything that touches it. It has variable friction; usually the membrane is very slippery, but gelmew can control the micro-structure of the membrane to make it sticky. It can use this ability to become invisible.

Gelmew can make giant bubbles made of membrane for fun and protecting other creatures.

Gel

The internal gel is some kind of viscous teal fluid. It is manipulated with psychic powers by the core and can move in strange ways. It's almost always protected by the membrane, but Gelmew is able to shed the membrane and just be a gel. Its more like a slime creature in that state and appears more amorphous and goopy than it's normal form. It can squeeze itself through porous surfaces while in this state.

It is able to store items within its body, but it usually chooses to put things inside a bubble of membrane instead of having them directly in the gel.

The gel has a very slight fresh "clean" smell, like soap or sanitizer.

It is slimy and will leave a wet residue on things that touch it, but it will evaporate on its own and leave nothing after it's gone.

Core

The core is a hyperblob of purple slime that floats inside Gel's body. It appears to be melting + blending into the gel when it's visible. The core is what controls Gelmew's body and is basically their brain. It doesn't follow normal laws of physics, can float around as if gravity doesn't affect it, and completely disappear from reality. When it disappears, its body stays behind and quickly collapses and dissolves.

If the core is removed from the rest of the body, it will attempt to keep as much gel and skin surrounding itself as it can, and the separated parts of its body will go idle and fall to the ground. If the core gets far enough away from the separated parts, the skin will be unable to maintain its structure and dissolve, leaving a puddle of gel mixed with liquefied membrane.

The core can convert nearby materials into its gel and membrane. It is a very slow process, but is able to do so even in completely dry locations (it is faster in more humid environments). It seems to be telekinetically restructuring water molecules around it, or it could be remotely teleporting raw material to itself from elsewhere. It takes several hours or longer to rebuild its body from nothing. If it manifests near its old body, it can reuse the material and remake itself much quicker.

The core can demanifest into its alternate dimension which will immediately cause its body to collapse and disperse. It can't bring its body or anything else with it into the other dimension. When the core comes back, it has to rebuild its body. It might return in a different location than where it left. When the core is in an agitated state, it will morph its shape a lot. Pieces appear to drip off, but they are actually still attached to itself in its dimension. The dripped pieces will either reattach or shrink away and disappear as those parts unintersect with this dimension.

The core can be "anchored" in this universe by various means, which prevents Gelmew from demanifesting, as well as "locking-in" its current form. Electric, Psychic, Ice and several other types of special energy are capable of doing this to different degrees.

Typing

Gelmew comes from a universe with different physical rules than this one, including having a different elemental type-matchup system. Gelmew became a Gel type, which has a very busy matchup chart for with this universe's types.

Here is the reasoning for every type matchup, in case you really want to know.

Gel is a volatile type because it comes from a universe with different rules. As a result, it has many more type interactions than most types.

Normal: Gel resists Normal because Gel is alien and out of the ordinary

Fire: Gel can be like water, putting out fire, or it can be very reactive like alcohol or other colorless liquids. Gel is 2x against Fire and vice versa

Water: Gel and Water both dilute each other. 1/2x strength against each other.

Fighting, Ground, Rock, Flying: Scratching, blunt force, and pecking do not have much effect on a viscous fluid.

Ice: Cold freezes Gel into a solid, killing its characteristic fluidity

Electric: Electric currents pass through Gel like Water

Poison: Contaminations in a fluid can change the physical properties of a fluid (viscousness/purity) and can be hard to filter out.

Psychic, Ghost, Dragon, Dark: The supernatural and mythic powers of this world work in fundamentally incompatible ways than the old world.

Steel: Gel reforms around a blade. You can't cut liquids

Transform

Since Gel is a mew and also has an entirely constructed body, it can use transform to change into any form. They retain their gelly appearance, but can make itself opaque and change the properties of their membrane if they exert itself.

Its most used transformation is a Vaporeon because it works as a disguise. When they transform, it is easier for them to keep their gel appearance, so they pass as a Vaporeon stuck in a half-dissolved-in-water state.

Respawning

If needed, Gelmew can leave their body and make a new one, "respawning" itself. They only do this as an absolute last resort. Not having a body is extremely disorienting and a bit stressful, as they lose all the typical senses. On top of that, it takes quite a long time to generate an entire new body, especially the intricate gel sensory organs. So, they would be without any familiar input from their surroundings for a while.

The way it does this is by removing its core from its body. Once the core is far enough away, it loses connection to the body and its senses, and the body collapses into a pile of dead gel before evaporating.

Healing a puncture or slash doesn't take much time, since it can just stretch a patch over it and regenerate the redistributed membrane passively. For an entire new body however, it can take days or even weeks in dry biomes. In this time, Gelmew is  without sight, vision, or touch, and it  has to rely solely on its vague psychic awareness of its surroundings to remove itself from danger and find a safe place it can regenerate.

It is very undesirable to do this, so Gelmew only respawns if they are in mortal danger.

Origin

Gelmew was a Mew that survived the premature end of their universe. They managed to come to our universe by separating their self from their original body by some means. They don't talk to talk about it much, but they like this universe better than their old one. It doesn't know if anyone else from their universe was able to escape, and it seems very unlikely given the circumstances that Gelmew was afforded.
