While visiting Castelia City with her grandfather, Nia stumbled upon Uno when Pumpkin heard its faint cries behind a piles of trash in a dark alley way. Digging through the grime, she found the weak and rusted Magnemite hanging on its last thread. Without a second of hesitation, she picked it up and returned to Drayden to rush it to the city's Pokémon Center. Luckily, they were just in time to save its life and, coming to the conclusion that it was abandoned by its previous owner, Nia took it under her wing as her second Pokémon.

Upon returning home, Nia worked day and night to help repair Uno's damaged body with Drayden's help. Eventually, after countless hours of hard work, Uno was back to a healthy state. It was eager to stick to Nia's side after witnessing her kindness.

Nia vows to beat up Uno's previous owner after she finds them.
