As a child, Kane worked in the stables of a knight’s estate where their uncle also worked as a blacksmith. When they were around 11 sheep and cattle started going missing from the various farms in the area and long story short the lord decided that they'd got to go find what it is. The knight went out, killed the creature that they found, which turned out to be a wyvern with a clutch of eggs. The knight had his retainers destroy the nest, but didn’t realize that a newly hatched wyrmling had managed to get into one of his saddlebags where they had been storing food. When Kane was cleaning the saddle and de-tacking the knight’s horse, they found the baby wyvern, decided it was cute, and decided to take care of it themself. They quickly discovered that the baby wyvern loves to eat fish, so that is what they named it. After a while, she realized that it is a lot of work to hide and take care of a baby wyvern, but eventually, they got the hang of it. They knew that they couldn't keep Fish hidden for long and that they needed to find a place not on the estate to hide it.

Kane found a cave and ended up raising Fish there, and managed to modify a saddle to fit him. All this time they had also been balancing their stable duties, and about a year into this they became a squire. This increased workload made it harder for Kane to have time to check on Fish. They knew it was only a matter of time before people find out, but they managed to make it two years and were very close to attaining a knighthood by the time they decided that it was impossible to hide fish any longer. Sheep had been going missing and rumors that a dragon was taking them were circulating in town. They decided that the only way to keep Fish safe is to show everyone how well trained he is. So one morning they snuck out to the cave, tacked up fish with the saddle and harness they had made, and made their way on foot into town. Just outside of the town she mounted up and began walking down the main street.

The initial reaction of those in town was to panic and call the guard, who arrived with weapons drawn. Trying not to panic, or cause fish to bolt, as he was still wary of most people at this point, Kane guided him to a halt, then signaled for him to take off and circle the castle. They managed to land in the main courtyard where they were met by the knight (who i still haven’t named even though I wrote the original copy of this months ago) and his retainers, weapons drawn. Kane managed to explain their situation, and by some stroke of luck, the knight realized that having a wyvern could be an asset. Kane was surprised but delighted with this outcome because while their actions earned them extra stable duty, and put them back a year on their training, they were able to not fear for Fishes life constantly. Eventually, they became a knight in the service of the same regional lord that her mentor worked for.

Things get bad (tm)

Two years into their knighthood Kane and Fish were called out to lead a small troupe of soldiers into battle (i don’t know any sword coast lore so I’ve got no idea what battle or war this would be so I’ve left this vague on purpose). They had been in small battles before, but never something like this. In a moment of panic, Kane made the wrong call and told their small group to retreat. The enemy army was able to break through their cavalry line, and slaughter Kanes companions. Kane and Fish made it out alive but injured.

Things get worse

November 12th, 1484 Court Proceedings in the house of Lord Haiden Reiner Case #10: Regarding Sir Caedric Anderson of Easthaven, leader of the 12th cavalry in his Lord's army. Charge: Unnecessary Endangerment of Lives Plea: Guilty Sentence: -4 years banishment, beginning November 14th, 1484 -forfeit of wyvern “Fish” Partial Transcript: Plaintiff: First Lieutenant Yanric Pike After failing to pass on orders to hold the line at the battle of Miltoe, Sir Caedric Anderson instead called for an unnecessary retreat, which led to the loss of more than 80% of our cavalry when we were ambushed during it. In doing so they not only cost us the battle, but the lives of their fellow soldiers. Anderson has been considered an asset in the past, despite their tendencies to disobey orders in the past, due to the fact that they were able to procure and tame a wyvern. It seems our general has been more lenient with them than she should have been on account of them being the only one who could control it. While this may have been valuable in the past, Caedric has proven themself to be a greater risk than they are worth. It is my recommendation that they be removed from service, banished, and that the beast be dealt with as we cannot find someone who can control it if it is separated from Sir Anderson. Defendant: Sir Caedric Anderson Please don't kill Fish. You can do what you want with me. Send me away, kill me, but it wasn't his fault. He didn't do anything. It was my fault. I plead guilty. Just please don't hurt Fish. General Gelen Dumear: My Lord, if i may, It is my understanding that Sir Anderson is still a knight in your service. As of now they remain under your jurisdiction, i write to you asking for some leniency in the punishments they receive for their actions. While Anderson may no longer be a valuable asset, I believe that the wyvern may still be of use to us, although it seems they only respond to orders from Anderson themself. My recommendation is to remove Anderson from our ranks and replace them with another rider who may have better control of the beast. I understand that their actions warrant harsher punishment under our law, but I believe a few years of banishment may be enough to set them straight. Upon return, they shall return to the army as a trainer for the wyvern, but reasonably shall not ride in or lead any future movements..

Guard Report: Date: November 13th, 1484 Time: 1:00am At around 12:46 am a loud scuffle was reported near the stables on the south wall of the estate. These stables had recently been cleared of horses and were being used to store a valuable weapon in the lord's army. When guards reported to the scene, they found the door to the stables had been partially destroyed, possibly by a sharp weapon, and the contents of the stable were missing. Guards were sent to search the city, and the home of the former owner of said weapon,Caedric Anderson, but so far we have come up empty handed. A town wide search has been started for Anderson, but has not turned up results
