Was cast out of [name of group of sages] for practicing magic, which was forbidden for men.

Took in Hideyo for a little when he was younger and had just fled. During Hideyo's time with the sages, there had been a rumour of someone else who ran off years before him for practicing magic. With nothing to lose, he decides to follow the rumour to see if the guy really exists. Several towns later, he finds the guy but is greeted with disappointment. The guy exists, but he's only into healing magic.
Iyashi the ex-sage offers Hideyo a place to sleep seeing as he "looked like a nice kid". Having nowhere else to go, he stays for a while, while he creates a name for himself and finds some leads and works out a plan going forward.
