Misumi Konoe (近衛 美済 Konoe Misumi) is a character mentioned in Jujutsu Kaisen and a main character in Jujutsu Kaisen: Limitless. Originally a retainer working for the Gojo family, she becomes a student under Masamichi Yaga alongside Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Shoko Ieiri at Tokyo Jujutsu High.

After graduating, Misumi ranks special grade 1 and operates primarily out of the Tokyo Jujutsu High campus, where she works as a teacher. As a member of the Konoe family, her duties involve handling social and political relations between Tokyo Jujutsu High, the higher-ups, various sorcerer families, and law enforcement.

Misumi is a relatively short and curvaceous woman with red eyes, pale skin, and a distinct beauty mark just below the left side of her mouth. She has shoulder-length black hair, styled into a flared bob with cheek-length sidelocks and frontal fringe. The Konoe family is heavily affiliated with jujutsu society politics and law enforcement, and the uniform she wore when she was a student seems to have been designed with this in mind. It takes the form of a dark blue dress instead of the standard shirt and skirt, and is bisected by a black belt with a gold buckle. She wears black military boots, black stockings, and white gloves that are intended to cover up the blighting on her hands. Her most notable accessory is her dark blue service cap, which has a black bill, two gold stripes, and a gold Tokyo Jujutsu High crest in the center.

As a teacher, she continues to don her service cap, but instead wears a white button-up shirt tucked into her pants with its sleeves rolled up to her elbows. Over it, she wears a dark blue jacket with gold detailing draped around her shoulders, which is secured over her form by a black strap with a gold buckle. She wears high-waisted dark blue pants cropped just above her left thigh, where the exposed skin is used as an intermediary to unsheath Ipetam. She also wears black gloves and black thigh-high boots with heels. Her cropped pant leg is attached to her boot by a black garter with a gold buckle. While her cheek-length sidelocks and frontal fringe remain a part of her hairstyle, the remainder of her hair has been grown out and tied back into a messy bun.

Misumi displays intimate knowledge of jujutsu society, as the Konoe family’s teachings place a large emphasis on the histories and relations between sorcerer families. Throughout her childhood, she is the one to explain jujutsu history to Satoru Gojo. During her time as a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, she also shares this knowledge with those from non-sorcerer families, like Suguru Geto. Her family is also shown to have educated her on different types of cursed spirits, as such knowledge is pertinent to the use of her cursed technique. She displays this knowledge in class and is seen as a bit of a teacher’s pet because of it.

Misumi is introduced as someone who is dignified and somewhat formal, displaying strong moral beliefs and a self-denying demeanor. However, she is somewhat distant in her interactions with others, causing them to view her as cold, self-righteous, and prideful. In reality, she prefers to keep people at arm’s length due to her obligation to pay off her family’s karmic debt no matter what, even if it means putting her own life at risk. As such, she finds it cruel to allow people to grow attached to her when her fate is so uncertain. By her own admission, however, she is desperate to be close to and connect with others. With encouragement from Satoru Gojo, she is later able to break away from these self-imposed limitations.

While Misumi initially does not question the power structures established by jujutsu society, she begins to doubt their validity when the orders of the higher-ups begin to clash with her morals. Despite being raised by a family steeped in tradition, she has been shown to be steadfast in forming her own principles. She displays strong beliefs and values, particularly when it comes to matters of ethics. Despite her introverted nature, she will not hesitate to speak out against authority when she feels that their actions are morally reprehensible. She is particularly passionate about the treatment of those she views as innocent or defenseless, such as children. When such people are involved, she is willing to take matters into her own hands.

As she allows herself to grow closer to others, Misumi becomes well-liked for her calm and insightful personality. Many have taken note of her uncanny intuition, particularly in regards to the emotions of others. She is shown to be quite perceptive when it comes to people's mental and emotional state and is able to tell what kind of driving force pushes someone. She uses her insight to comfort and encourage others, and in doing so demonstrates great kindness, as those around her note that she could easily manipulate others if she wanted to. However, Suguru Geto notes that her kindness is not entirely rooted in altruism, as she bases her self-worth on her ability to protect others and relies on the existence of the weak to give her life purpose.

One of Misumi's most glaring flaws is her savior complex, as she sees sacrificing her own needs for those who are weaker than her to be the right and noble thing to do. This becomes especially prominent as she gets stronger, and the amount of weaker people that she feels obligated to protect grows in number. She is deeply affected when people she believes she could have saved or protected get hurt, as shown by how she lashed out at those around her when Yu Haibara died.

Guilt is shown to be a major driving force for Misumi, as she openly admits feeling that there is no reason for her to have been born if she does not act righteously. This is shown by the fact that she refuses to use her cursed technique not only because of the pain it causes her, but because of the moral qualms she has with allowing herself to become a monster. Ultimately, her goal is to reform the jujutsu world from within so that the newer generation does not have to bear the same guilt it has instilled in her. As such, she has heavily involved herself in the politics of jujutsu society, despite her lack of respect for those in it.

Overall Skill Level: Misumi entered Tokyo Jujutsu High as a Grade 2 sorcerer. While she may refuse to utilize her cursed technique, she demonstrates great combat abilities even without it. When she was promoted to Grade 1 during her second year at Tokyo Jujutsu High, Masamichi Yaga regarded her as the only sorcerer to make that rank without use of an advantageous cursed technique. Although she only uses her cursed technique to store tsukumogami, her tactical intellect and advanced cursed energy control make her a formidable foe.

Enemies and allies alike have praised her exclusive usage of tsukumogami that take the form of weapons, as they are often mistaken for cursed tools. As such, they allow her an opportunity to feign defeat should she be separated from her weapon. Meanwhile, the opponent would be unaware that her weapons are familiars that can act without her wielding them.

Misumi gained possession of Ipetam, a greatsword tsukumogami, while training in Hokkaido. Because she is the first master Ipetam has accepted in centuries, she is considered an invaluable asset to jujutsu society so long as he is in her arsenal. Ipetam has been ranked as a Special Grade, but whether he should be considered a cursed tool or a cursed spirit remains a point of contention. When Misumi came into possession of him, her rank was raised from Grade 2 to Special Grade 1. This ranking earned her a level of prestige that is considered virtually unattainable for members of the Konoe family. Suguru Geto claims that, were she not Ipetam's wielder, her skill alone would barely warrant her the ranking of a Grade 1 sorcerer.

Expert Weapons Specialist: Since Misumi refuses to utilize her cursed technique, she relies solely on her armed combat skills in battle. Due to her position as a retainer, Misumi has been trained in several swordsmanship styles from a young age. She is noted as most prominently utilizing iaijutsu, a combative quick-draw sword technique that emphasizes being aware and capable of quickly drawing the sword and responding to sudden attacks. Iaijutsu strives for beauty and perfection in form, and Misumi's application of it in battle is made known by those who describe her swordsmanship as practiced and graceful rather than brutal or sadistic. She is even able to hold her own when sparring against her classmate, Suguru Geto, a special grade sorcerer who displays exceptional physical prowess.

Misumi has been trained to be able to wield the wide variety of weapons that her tsukumogami take the form of, including spears, ropes, and bows. However, she usually wields Ipetam, and most often wielded Manemosomi before he came into her possession. She heavily prefers swords as her weapon of choice, as her history with swordsmanship has made it so that she has the easiest time imbuing her cursed energy into their blade. As she advances in her cursed energy manipulation, Misumi becomes able to wield a sword with superhuman physical prowess. She becomes able to unleash exceptional levels of cursed energy with her attacks, especially when fighting alongside Ipetam, who actively contributes cursed energy of his own into her swings.

Great Tactical Intellect: One of Misumi's defining traits is her vast knowledge of the histories and cursed techniques of many sorcerer families. This information is taught to members of the Konoe family from a young age due to the family's heavy involvement in jujutsu society politics. From a simple mention of an opponent's name, Misumi has been able to surmise what abilities an enemy sorcerer may have based on her knowledge of their lineage alone. Additionally, she shows encyclopedic levels of knowledge on many different types of cursed spirits, and can even tell what kind of cursed spirit has injured a sorcerer based on the type of wounds they've sustained.

On top of the encyclopedic knowledge she often has on her opponents, Misumi has been described as having a level of intuition that is almost uncanny, being able to read the motives and intentions of friend and foe alike. The ability to predict the next move of her opponent with relative ease allows Misumi to come up with a counter before they can even strike. This is further aided by the presence of Ipetam, who has been shown to to cover Misumi's blind spots, offer her tactical advice with his centuries of knowledge, and point out enemy disadvantages that she may have missed otherwise.

Cursed Energy Manipulation
220x124

Immense Cursed Energy: Like all members of the Konoe family, Misumi has had exceptional amounts of cursed energy from birth. This is shown in her ability to both seal and summon a wide variety of tsukumogami from within herself. This power comes from the karmic debt accumulated by her ancestors, the Fujiwara. While she usually uses Coalescence to conceal her cursed energy, those who have sensed the cursed energy of Konoe family members say that it feels dirty.

220x124

Advanced Cursed Energy Control: By coalescing her soul with a cursed object or spirit, Misumi can take on their cursed energy signature and leave behind no residuals of her own. Due to the nature of her technique, expert sorcerers and even those who possess abilities like the Six Eyes cannot detect her cursed energy once she has coalesced. While she can seal many cursed objects and spirits within her body due to her immense cursed energy levels, she can only choose one to actively coalesce with and mimic the cursed energy of.

Great Cursed Energy Output: Misumi can unleash exceptional levels of cursed energy with her attacks, with a single swing of Manemosomi emitting a powerful blastwave when charged with cursed energy. This output grows immensely when wielding Ipetam, who is able to not only amplify it, but also contribute his own cursed energy to the blast.

220x124

Greatly Enhanced Strength: While Misumi is not as naturally strong as Satoru or Suguru, she compensates for her small physical frame by strengthening herself with cursed energy. This reinforcement to her physical power allows her to wield even a greatsword of Ipetam's size. In order to best benefit her, Misumi's tsukumogami can work around her delicate frame by manipulating their physical form. During battle, they are shown to be capable of making themselves sharper, blunter, lighter, or heavier when it is advantageous for her.

220x124

Greatly Enhanced Agility: Misumi can greatly increase her speed, agility, and maneuverability by using cursed energy to improve her muscles' performance. This is enhanced by the fact that she is rather agile to begin with, a rare instance in which her smaller frame is useful to her in combat. She is capable of performing acrobatic spins and parkour moves across the environment to evade enemy attacks, and is described as being extremely graceful while doing so.

220x124

Greatly Enhanced Endurance: Misumi is able to greatly increase her endurance by fortifying her body with cursed energy. This enhanced endurance is shown by her ability to withstand hits that a person of her size and stature should not be able to endure. This includes but is not limited to jumping off of high places and being harshly flung by cursed spirits against buildings. This is strengthened by her strong resolve, as she is shown crawling through her own blood after sustaining significant injuries in order to reach and assist her comrades.

220x124
Inherited Technique
220x124

Coalescence (合体 Gattai): Coalescence is an innate technique which is derived from the Konoe family. It allows the user to absorb anything with cursed energy into their body using their skin as an intermediary. While users cannot control the cursed spirits they absorb, they can coalesce their soul with them. This allows them to temporarily gain the access to the abilities and cursed techniques of the specific curse they have coalesced with. Users may also take on a semi-monstrous form, displaying physical traits reminiscent of the coalesced cursed spirit. Meanwhile, the user's body will exorcise the cursed spirit from within. Once the spirit is completely exorcised, any physical traits and abilities gained upon coalescing with the cursed spirit dissipate. Afterwards, the cursed energy from the exorcised curse is absorbed directly into the user's body, where it causes them immense emotional and physical distress. It then physically manifests as blight.

Coalescence users can also use their body as an intermediary for cursed tools and other cursed objects. Storing them within their bodies does not cause blighting, as they are not cursed spirits and therefore there is no power struggle between the user's soul and the cursed energy of the cursed spirit within them. Misumi uses this to her advantage by taming tsukumogami, particularly those that take the form of weapons. These tsukumogami can both be used as the weapons they take the form of and as familiars that carry out orders in accordance with her instructions. While they are curses and functionally similar to shikigami, they are registered by her body as cursed tools and do not cause blighting.

Despite its high power ceiling, it is largely considered an undesirable cursed technique as it ultimately results in its user becoming a cursed spirit via blighting. While it provides immense raw power, its drawbacks are seen as too perilous.

220x124

Displacement (変位 Hen'i): Displacement is an innate technique derived from the Konoe family. It is described as a derivative of Coalescence. The technique allows the user to heal an ally by transferring any kind of curse-related damage to themselves, effectively displacing their injuries onto the user's body instead. For displacement to occur, the user must bite the skin of the injured party. It can be useful in a bind because, unlike the reversed cursed technique and other such healing methods, it does not require a large output of cursed energy from the user. While displacement can cause blighting, it is nowhere near as harmful to the user as blighting caused via Coalescence, as the intermediary of an additional party between the user and the original curse effectively dilutes the initial potency of the cursed energy.

Restrictions
220x124

Blight (粛殺 Shukusatsu): Absorbing too much cursed energy via Coalescence causes blight, a form of corruption that is characterized by dark, reddish-black markings on the user's skin. While blighting can be healed with a reverse cursed technique, coalescing with an excessive amount of curses or a cursed spirit that is too powerful for its user to handle can cause a form of blighting that is irreversible. At this point, they lose access to their consciousness and become a curse themselves. Misumi's blighting was minimized thanks to her partner Shoko Ieiri, a user of the reverse cursed technique.

Blight is viewed by jujutsu society as the revenge of Michizane Sugawara, one of the big three Vengeful spirits of Japan, against Tokihira Fujiwara, an ancestor of the Konoe family who had ruined Sugawara's life with his wrongdoings. This is reinforced by the fact that sorcerers in the Konoe family are born with their hands already blighted and that ancestors of the Konoe family were born with their entire bodies blighted. The gradual dilution of blighting throughout generations is thought to be the result of the years that Fujiwara's descendants have spent paying back Sugawara's descendants with their servitude. The Konoe family believes their bloodline will be free of blight once this karmic debt has been paid off.

Barrier Technique
220x124

Curtain (帳 Tobari): Misumi can create a barrier that surrounds a certain area. The barrier can seal the area off from other people or a specific person wanting to get in.

Cursed Tools
220x124

Misumi's primary cursed tool was a sword with a dark silver blade and a plum-red hilt. It was given to her by her mother. Like her other weapons, she uses her cursed technique to both seal and summon this weapon, using her skin as an intermediary. Even as she began adding tsukumogami to her arsenal, this katana remained her primary weapon until she came into posession of Ipetam.

Due to the fact that they take the form of conventional weaponry, many people consider Misumi's tsukumogami to be cursed tools. This is reinforced by the fact that they do not cause blighting, implying that her body also considers them as such. However, Misumi herself likens them to shikigami due to the fact they can move of their own accord and were cursed spirits before she took them in as familiars. When paired with what many perceive to be a childlike personification of her tsukumogami, her point of view has often been overlooked. However, this classification was later taken into serious consideration once she came into the possession of Ipetam, who many considered a cursed spirit rather than a cursed tool. Whether or not her tsukumogami should be considered cursed objects or cursed spirits remains a point of contention within jujutsu society.

Tsukumogami
220x124

Shime-oni (標鬼 Shime-oni): A tsukumogami taking the form of a shimenawa, a thick rope often used for purification rituals. Misumi can summon it using her skin as an intermediary. Like her other tsukumogami, it can either be manually controlled or move at her command, even if she is not holding it. In battle, she uses it as a lasso to bind opponents.

When addressing Shime-oni, Misumi refers to the tsukumogami as Shime (標さん Shime-san).

220x124

Furu-utsubo (古空穂 Furu-utsubo): A tsukumogami taking the form of an archery set, including a quiver that supplies an endless quantity of arrows. Misumi can summon it using her skin as an intermediary. Like her other tsukumogami, it is both capable of being used as a weapon and can move upon her command, even if she is not directly wielding it.

When addressing Furu-utsubo, Misumi refers to the tsukumogami as Furu (古さん Furu-san).

220x124

Yarikecho (槍毛長 Yarikechō): A tsukumogami taking the form of a spear. Misumi can summon it using her skin as an intermediary. It can either be used as a weapon or move at her command, even if she is not wielding it herself.

Though was initially believed to be a single cursed spirit, it was later revealed to be forming a humanoid shape with two other tsukumogami: Zenfusho, which took the form of a kettle and acted as the head, and Koinryo, which took the form of an inro and acted as the torso, with its cord acting as the limbs. Yarikecho was wielded as the others' weapon and expressed despondence upon their defeat. By her own admission, Misumi took Yarikecho in as a tsukumogami out of pity.

When addressing Yarikecho, Misumi refers to the tsukumogami as Yari (槍さんYari-san).

220x124

Koinryo (虎隠良 Koinryō): A tsukumogami taking the form of an inro, a traditional Japanese case used for holding small objects. It is this cursed object that Misumi coalesces her soul with to mask her cursed energy, as its size makes it nearly undetectable. She gained possession of it alongside Yarikecho. She later gifts it to her younger brother, Umetaro Konoe.

When addressing Koinryo, Misumi refers to the tsukumogami as Ryo (良さん Ryō-san).

220x124

Ipetam (イペタム Ipetamu): Ipetam is the most powerful tsukumogami that Misumi has. He takes the form of a greatsword with a mouth at the top of its blade, just below the hilt. As an ancient cursed spirit widely considered to be the predecessor of all sword tsukumogami, Ipetam cannot be exorcised. As such, when he stopped obeying his wielders due to his bloodthirsty and irreverent nature, he was sealed away at the bottom of a pit of cursed spirits. While many have tried to wield him in the past, they either could not defeat the cursed spirits that surrounded him or were killed by Ipetam himself, who refused to accept anybody as his master, as he viewed all adversaries as unworthy of wielding him.

Ipetam came into Misumi’s possession after elders sent her to train where he was kept in Hokkaido, after knowledge of her prowess in taming tsukumogami had spread. He accepted her as a master because unlike other prospective wielders, who attempted to wield him through the use of brute force alone, Misumi questioned what use a weapon like him had if it was not being wielded. When Ipetam found himself unable to answer, she offered to be his master not because she desired his strength, but so she could give him a reason to be alive. Deeply intrigued by her philosophy, he accepted.

Unlike the other tsukumogami Misumi possesses, which are only perceived as familiars rather than weapons by Misumi herself, Ipetam is perceived by others as alive, likely due to his mouth, which can speak and eat. He is considered an invaluable part of Misumi's arsenal beyond his role as a weapon, having been shown to cover her blind spots, give advice with his vast centuries of knowledge, and point out any enemy disadvantages that Misumi herself may have otherwise missed. Due to his status as a divine entity, she reluctantly addresses him as Lord Ipetam (イペタム様 Ipetamu-sama).
