Personality

Ivailo is stand-offish towards strangers and several of the gods. He is more friendly towards people he likes and will sometimes even joke around with them. He is serious and dedicated towards his work and Marwolaeth. Ivailo can be quick to anger, though he tries to keep himself in check, especially in front of the other gods, as he knows it would reflect poorly on Marwolaeth. He also has a tendency to get jealous when Aglæca receives more attention than he does and will openly declare to Marwolaeth his disdain for the rabbit.

Description

Tall, at 6'6”. He has a lean, muscled build with a fair complexion, and waist-length hair that is black (top), purple (middle), and blue (bottom), and has a slight wave to it. His eyes are the color of moonstones with no pupil.

He typically wears snug trousers that sit on his hips, loose lightweight shirts that are typically open halfway, and combat-style boots. The colors he wears are usually blacks and greys. He has silver snakebite piercings on his lips and three moonstones with chains on both ears that go along the length (lobe, middle, and tip). He also has a permanent collar that the Creator put on him, it looks like a bone bat wing, similar to Marwolaeth’s but thinner, and has a large metal ring attached in the front where the wings meet. He keeps his animalistic ears and tail when 'human'.

When he transforms into his animal form, he is a wolf-like creature with long, pointed ears, and an exceptionally long, fluffy tail. His coat is the same color as his hair and he still has his collar and piercings.

Background

Ivailo is a guardian of Athanasios, the underworld. Though, he has not existed for as long as Marwolaeth. The Creator made him on a whim to curb their boredom and left him chained, in his wolf form, in an uninhabited area of Athanasios. For almost half of his existence he was kept alone in the dark, a cloaking spell keeping him hidden from Marwolaeth. When the Creator finally decided that they had had enough of their game, the spell was lifted and Marwolaeth became aware of a new presence in Athanasios. He found Ivailo, removed his chain, and took him home. The wolf was wary of the god, at first, though became used to him and eventually sought out his attention. It would be several months before Marwolaeth discovered that he also had a “human” form, Ivailo accidentally changing while he napped with the god in his bed. After a year passed, and Ivailo’s many complaints of having nothing to do, Marwolaeth asked if he would like to become a guardian of Athanasios and help to keep its inhabitants safe. The wolf agreed and became the underworld’s first guardian, after Marwolaeth himself.

Ivailo spends most of his time patrolling the entirety of the world and making sure that its inhabitants, including Marwolaeth, are safe. When he is off duty, he enjoys taking naps and chasing Aglæca. His favorite place to nap is Marwolaeth’s library, as he enjoys the smell of the books. Though, as much as he would like to peruse them, he does not know how to read and is too proud to ask for help. After many years of being together, Marwolaeth has realized this and will occasionally read books aloud, claiming that he is reading to Aglæca.

Despite his stand-offish nature, Ivailo quite likes physical affection. He enjoys ear rubs and scritches while in his animal form. Though, he rarely receives these as he and Marwolaeth sometimes go weeks without seeing each other. When Hallbjörn visits, he brings Ivailo meaty treats. If his son, Sindri, is with him, the boy will spend his time during the visit giving Ivailo all the pets an underworld guardian could ask for. Sylva will also give him attention when he joins Nirav on his visits, though the demigod is somewhat nervous around the wolf. The other gods mostly ignore him, though Mano, the god of love, tries to get him to listen to his poetry and let him dress him in pink things.

Like a few of the gods, Ivailo does not get along with Kanathar, the plains god. When Kanathar visits, he will typically make snide remarks towards him, calling him Marwolaeth’s dog and mongrel, or asking when he’ll be muzzled or leashed. Kanathar will usually not say such things in Marwolaeth’s presence, as he knows the god would not tolerate such comments and would throw him out of Athanasios.

Though he has the company of Marwolaeth and Aglæca, Ivailo feels a nagging loneliness. Deep down, the wolf wishes to be with someone on a more constant level than he is with the god, even if it is as just a platonic companion. He feels that such a thing is impossible, though, as he must stay in Athanasios and the only permanent inhabitants of the underworld are Marwolaeth, Aglæca, and the souls of the dead.
