“tell me baby, do you recognize me?”
story of haru
Haru is born a boy bear the ports of Nagoya, Japan. Though his parents were both entrepeneurs, Haru seemed to be interested in other things. He would sit on the docks, looking out to the sea. "That is what I want to do", the boy would say.
His parents, however, would say that he would not. In his teenage years, they kept him from going to the docks as much as possible, to put some more obedience into the kid and make him stop dreaming of unrealistic fantasies. However, you can take the kid away from the dream, but you cannot take the dream away from the kid.
Therefore, on a warm day when Haru was 12, he snuck onto one of the cargo ships, not knowing where he was headed. It was months later that he arrived in the wonderful land of... Scotland? Not speaking the language, the boy got off of the ship and wandered until he found familiar characters, some words he could understand.
He found an old Japanese man running a fishing shop, Shigeru, and soon became his mentor. The two would go on voyages together, learning to fish and sail. He learned of a monster called the Loch Ness.. and his new "grandfather"'s efforts to catch it.
One fateful day, the two were out at sea on a small fishing boat when Haru swore he saw the monster of the sea -- glared directly into it's large golden eyes -- as it capsized their boat. He tried to save Shigeru, but he was too frail to swim.
Now left on the boat, all alone, was Haru. For a month, he drifted at sea, surviving off of fish and rainwater, before being discovered by Spanish coast guard members and being sent back to Scotland -- as it was all the boy would tell him.
As soon as the boy got back, he was a local sensation for his ability to survive for a full month stranded at sea. As a late teenager, he decided to join the Royal Navy to do what he loved as a career.
Past then, his life is a lot of the same. Doing massive feats of strength, bragging about those massive feats, and on and on again. Until he was 32, and met a man named William O'Connel.
As soon as he laid eyes on William, he knew that he wanted to marry him. The two hit it off instantly and started dating -- in fact, doing so for 5 years until William suddenly left for home -- the home Haru didn't know he had.
See, the entire time, William had a wife and kids at home. Haru, heartbroken by learning this news but still believing he had a chance to get he man he loved back, resigned from the Navy to look for his former love but was never successful.
And that leads us to now. Haru, now in his mid-40s, still nevre having found another who can suit his fancy the same that William did -- and longing to know where the sea monster that took Shigeru went.
personality
Haru is a guy with a Lot of life experience to tell. Being easy-going and talkative, Haru tells a lot of stories about his adventures on the sea and in the navy, like how when he was 12 he fought the Loch Ness monster and lived to tell the tale, surviving on a boat for a month before using his natural talent for navigation to return to land. Yeah... I never said they were believable... But you really have no choice but to trust him. His experience and sturdy hand behind the wheel of a boat is proof enough that he's got sailing experience a'plenty. His repertoire of relationships is proof that he's got other experience too. And his promise ring is proof he has something else to him that he won't tell to just anyone.
"well, it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me..."
