Sebastian is the younger brother of Phoebe, 7 years younger to be exact. When their father vanished and then their mother died, Phoebe took the place of Sebastian's primary caretaker. Despite this the two never dropped the feeling of a sibling relationship, and when Sebastian was a teenager they were very prone to teasing and picking fights with each other.
When Sebastian was about 13-14 he started apprenticing under the town healer, Cothora. The medical field became an area Sebastian would stick to for the rest of his life.
When Clearbranch (the town he was born and raised in) was sacked as a byproduct of the king wars, Sebastian was separated from his older sister. He worked with Cothora in the chaos to tend to those injured, and was ultimately forced to leave. He was reunited with his sister less than a year later, and the two of them decided to seek out their uncle, Leto Aelloson, who after some grumping took them in. It was from his uncle Leto that Sebastian learned and flourished as a magic user alongside his medical experience.
Sebastian always looked much more like his father than his mother, which drew some unwelcome attitudes toward him in his hometown. He often felt self conscious about this and unwelcome. When he moved in with his uncle (who was his father's brother) Sebastian felt much more comfortable, now surrounded by family that looked like him. He took to city life very well too.
Sebastian's father always came and went because of "business", but disappeared when Sebastian was about 6. Sebastian doesn't remember much of his father, but he idolizes him. Clinging to his last memory of his father taking him aside and talking to him. Since then he has bristled at other town members whispering gossip about his father.
