PERSONALITY:

Mellow is shy, reclusive, and easily angered. She's unaccustomed to genuine affection, and due to her history she has a tendency to assume the worst of people's intentions until proven otherwise. She's easily embarrassed, and tends to have a bit of a "resting bitch face". She is not totally devoid of a sense of humor however, but you'll have to do well to unlock it.

DESIGN NOTES:

  • Mellow has 4 tails exactly, and should not be drawn with any more or less than that.
  • Her bangs are not totally straight, and she tends to sweep it a bit to the side.
  • Her hair reaches to a little above her hips. Her hair is also slightly wavy, not completely straight. (It looks very messy in the morning.)
  • Heart marking is on the opposite side of the cheek than Quinn's star marking.
  • The tips of her ears have a slightly darker color.
  • Her eyes are colored slightly differently.
  • Her wardrobe is rather varied, as she doesn't have a lot of fashion preferences. Many of her outfits are picked out by Quinn. She's okay with skirts, pants, shorts, hoodies, whatever. She doesn't really favour too neon colors or intense patterns however.
  • Mellow is a skilled sniper, and her choice of weapon is a sniper rifle. She is also trained in martial arts however, and knows how to wield knives and daggers.
HISTORY:

Mellow was born in a small village in the middle of nowhere belonging to the Sun Clan - a religious cult consisting only of foxes, praising their 9-tailed God, the Sun.
The Sun Clan is led by three priests, all of which are male, three-tailed, and over 30 years old. The priests choose their own apprentices (successors).
The class system in the cult is largely based on gender, and amount of tails. Priests are the most powerful, thereby follows their apprentices and their wives/children, then men/boys, and lastly women/girls. Foxes born with only one tail get executed shortly after birth, and openly LGBT characters get cast out.

The Sun Clan has a long history of inbreeding, and incest is often encouraged by the priests due to the mutations that occur to the offspring - multiple tails. They unfortunately do not care much for the illnesses and high death-rate this causes. Their goal is to produce a fox with nine tails, believing that will be their God reborn. They have however only so far managed three tails - that is, until Mellow was born.

With the mutations of heterochromia and four tails, Mellow was deemed a Prophet, a voice of their God. The cult believed that once Mellow was of age she'd be able to communicate with their God and find out how to rebirth it. So from childhood Mellow was alienated from her peers, trained vigorously in ritualistic religious practices and discipline, most of which harmed her psyche long-term.

Mellow's birth became her mother Edith's claim to power, as the cult started treating her as a Virgin Mary-like being. This raised her from the lowest rank in the Clan to one of the highest along with her daughter. Edith started obsessing over Mellow's "destiny", and was cruel and manipulative.

The long anticipated day Mellow turned eighteen, May 10th, the gruesome Sun Ceremony would take place, officially crowning her as a Prophet of the Sun. She was to walk up to the altar, take the Holy Blade and blind herself with it, supposedly to allow the God to awaken and replace her eyes with its own.

Things didn't quite work out as intended, however.

As Mellow was fearfully walking up towards the altar, a small group of armed assassins broke into the cult's Holy House on a planned attack, seeking to wipe out the priests due to their malicious abuse of the cult members. Anyone who got in their way died too, and some were caught in the crossfire. Mellow spotted her chance at escape, but was rushed to safety by her mother. She protested and tried to break free, desperate to escape the ceremony. Her mother tried to force her, threatened her, hit her, until Mellow grabbed the Holy Blade and stabbed her mother in a fit of rage and terror. Her mother fell over in a pool of blood, and still in shock, Mellow followed the assassins out their escape route. They let her, after seeing her mother die.

One priest survived the attack, and the two surviving priest apprentices took the two dead priests' places. Many others were dead, and Xavier, only a two-tailed low ranked fox, was sent out to take revenge on the assassins and try to capture their "stolen" prophet.

Once far from the village, the assassins questioned Mellow, and after hearing her story, offered her a place in their group. Mellow, not knowing where else to go and liking the group's many personalities, accepted. She was given a cheap apartment somewhere in a big city, and started out as group member Basil's apprentice, and was eventually named a full-fledged assassin in the group. She was skilled, quick on her feet, stealthy, and an excellent sniper. She was also trained by Ivy in martial arts.

One day she was coincidentially assigned the same target as an assassin from a rival agency.
Their meeting quickly turned hostile and competitive, both fully intending to do their job. In the end, Quinn was the one who got the kill after sneaking up on the target while Mellow was aiming her sniper. Quinn got an earful from Mellow after their escape, but reacted with a more humorous teasing tone than Mellow had expected, and after some quips back and forth, they parted ways. Mellow was angry about the stolen kill, but found herself curious about the draconic character who stole it from her (although she would never admit it).

As fate would have it, they meet again not long after, in a low-profile bar eatery in the outskirts of the city where Quinn works outside of missions. Both shocked, but also knowing not to make a scene, they strike up a hushed conversation at the counter, mostly consisting of Mellow chewing them out for the last incident and Quinn mocking her for being "too slow". More passive aggressive commentary was exchanged before Mellow leaves the bar, quietly but with a look that could kill. Both are once again left oddly intrigued about the other, and despite the circumstance find themselves craving to see the other again.

Many weeks pass by like usual, until a meeting is called between the two leaders of both opposing assassin agencies. It was revealed that the two leaders had been meeting and discussing a few times prior, and now wanted to merge the two groups so as to form an alliance against their mutual targets. The merge is met with hostility and shock from most members, especially from Quinn and Mellow.

A lot of changes follows the merge, and one of them means relocating the headquarters of both groups into a single one, on the outskirts of the city. Every member has to move to new apartments, and thanks to admins Sterling and Basil conspiring against their own apprentices (out of affection and a sense of humor, after learning of Quinn and Mellow's tense but seemingly budding relationship), Quinn and Mellow end up becoming roommates. Both protest about it, and are quite skeptical of the other, but they eventually fall into a rythm, and find themselves growing closer in their own unique way. Slowly but surely, their relationship turns into something romantic, and they become partners in crime on the regular.
