Personality

Azura is a friendly Deinonychus who enjoys exploring, climbing trees and sleeping in the sun. They can get overly excitable and curious, which can sometimes land them in danger as they are not always aware of their surroundings. They enjoy spending time with other Deinonychus when they come together to hunt larger prey, but generally Azura is happy adventuring alone.

Summary

Appearance

Azura is largely similar in colouration to a blue jay - with various blue tones covering their upper body, giving way to a white underbelly. Their primary and secondary feathers are a brighter blue with black bars across them. Azura has a long tail which ends in a similar colouration. The skin of the face, feet and visible digits is grey. Their eyes are amber, with a round pupil.

About Deinonychus

Deinonychus is a genus of non-avian dromaeosaurid dinosaur. They lived during the early Cretaceous period (about 115-108 million years ago) in what is now North America. Because of its extremely bird-like anatomy, paleontologists hypothesize that Deinonychus was most likely completely covered in feathers. Fossil evidence exists for several closely-related dromaeosaurids, including Velociraptor and Microraptor.

Like other dromaosaurs, Deinonychus had a sickle claw on each of their feet that was held off the ground, The function of this claw is believed by some experts to be to kick out or disembowel prey. However, others believe that they claws were intended to aid the Deinonychus with climbing. In tests done with robotic replicas, it was found that the sickle claw would have been too weak to disembowel prey, instead only being capable of small shallow stabs. It's also possible that Deinonychus used its sickle claw to defend itself similar to cassowaries and ostriches.

The forelimbs main function appears to be grasping and for clutching objects against its chest. Biomechanical studies show that Deinonychus would not have been able to fold its arms like a bird. Because of the feathers, Deinonychus could also probably only hold an object against its chest with one arm at a time. Because of the 'wings', and from fossil evidence of feathers  in other dromaeosaurs, it appears that Deinonychus' had fused or webbed digits in its hands.

Geological evidence suggests that Deinonychus inhabited a floodpain or swamp-like habitat, similar to modern-day Louisiana.

Trivia
