A former gargoyle, imbued with life by the King's sorcerer to better defend the castle during times of need. He was named Cledwyn by the King in honour of the blessing bestowed upon him (and a nod to the roughness of his stone beginnings). Taking quickly to combat, Cledwyn found himself lauded as a valuable player in the castle's defences - yet never managed to quite fit in amongst the mortal soldiers, victim to many long-held superstitions.

Grey-skinned, his flesh is durable but not impenetrable. Whenever flesh is carved from his body, it returns to its original stone. It has been said that he keeps his severed right hand upon his person - it's a false rumour. After all, it would be heavy and cumbersome to carry around. He keeps it safe in his quarters instead.

Devoted to King and castle, Cledwyn would do anything that was asked of him. With little sense of right and wrong, the King used him for all manner of purposes, not all pleasant. Incensed that the gargoyle was being used beyond his original purpose, the sorcerer took it upon himself to teach Cledwyn the principles of morality. He grew conflicted, torn between his loyalty to the man that commanded his creation and the teachings of the man that gave him life.

Cledwyn carried on... But was never quite the same.

Years passed. The King died but the castle remained. Eventually abandoned due to plague, the walls fall into disrepair, ceilings cave in, floorboards rot. But the gargoyle remains. He still guards the fortress, waiting for the next master to arrive, bring life back to the castle, the kingdom and his sense of purpose.

"The gift of life is not always a blessing."
