These steps keep on growing long (Spined as an arrow!) - Bayonet trials, rust propellers await - No! Nobody is heard; rowing sheep smiles for the dead. Nobody is heard... An antiquated home, afloat with engines on mute, sui generis ship spined around the yard. Is anybody there? • a living glitch; a lost piece of code from an old dress-up game, now wandering the back alleys of the world wide web and trying to survive the boredom of eternity
• lethargic, sarcastic. curious, lonely. cool, aloof, relaxed - or just dissociating?
• adventurous, tries to be friendly most of the time

  • "lowpoly" body, made of angular or even crystalline planes. no neck, head floats a bit above the shoulders.
  • head is either like a long flat triangle, or like an upside-down cone. hair can vary quite widely (she likes to try out different styles!) - by default, shes drawn with a kind of spiked-up undercut.
  • eyes are huuuge and shinyyy, very retro anime inspired. mouth is inspired by Bratz dolls, but I like to draw it in an even more abstracted way, floating like a flat paper cutout in front of her face.

  • use of pixelation, glitchiness, and cubism is encouraged.

• WAYBACK --> Perl was created by the webmaster of a small site: an artsy place where visitors could come dress up 2D pixel dolls in various outfits, and then save and share their ensembles. It gained a modest gaggle of users.
• THE BUBBLE BURSTS --> Eventually, however, traffic began to dip. After increasingly long silences between updates from the webmaster - the site shut down. Perl was thrust onto the open web with nowhere to call home.
• THE NOW-NOW --> This is effectively the state she finds herself in even today - but it's not all bad. She's found a fair few friends while hitchhiking the information superhighway.

• [The Webmaster] -- ?/?, ? --> Owned a small pixel-doll website in the late 90s and early 00s. Diligently maintained the site despite its meager userbase until their mysterious disappearance. The site closed shortly afterward and Perl was thrust onto the open web, alone. Perl has conflicted feelings about their creator; sometimes cursing them, sometimes wishing she could be 'back home' again.

  DEEP LORE: a nerdy little black girl, who played with html way back in the 90s-00s. it's not clear exactly why she stopped maintaining the site; whether the cause was simple boredom, or growing up and having to deal with bigger responsibilities.

• [Tama] -- it/they, babby --> A clickable siggy adopt. Has received maybe fifteen clicks since 2006 and is thus still stuck in its shell. Doesn't seem very aware, but can change the patterns on its shell to signal feelings. 

  DRAWING NOTES: about 2 or 3 ft tall, with stumpy/toony dino legs emerging from holes in the bottom of its green-spotted shell. It can emote using the spots on its shell, usually just simple icons like ?s and !s, inspired by Mario question blocks.

  DEEP LORE: may eventually hatch into a creature that combines avian and draconic traits.

• [TBN] -- she/they, pet site escapee --> Originally a denizen of a popular site that offered its users the chance to take care of their very own virtual pet. Became lost in the labyrinthine code of a [buggy adoption system], struggling for years to find a way out. Eventually, they manage to find and slip through a metaphorical crack in their prison, and tumble out onto the wider web. Looks somewhere between a dinosaur and a teddybear, with an orange color scheme. Gruff exterior, fluffy personality.
