Amy lived with their mum in a quiet city house. As a child/teen, they suffered extreme insomnia with them not being able to go to sleep at all. It started when they were around 6-7, and at the time it was written off as something not important. They struggled in school and was the runt of the class because they were getting no sleep. They dropped out of school age 8 after a massive meltdown and them then fainting. It didn't get better for a while, and their mother struggled to home school them and keep on top of her job. She did manage to get payed by them while working from home when her co-workers realized what she was going through and made a union to help in solidarity. It only worked because their company realised it wasn't a good look to leave a single mother taking care of her child out to dry.

Eventually, in their mid 20s, they managed to sleep. It wasn't good, but it was a big deal. They acted jetlagged all the time and started sleeping more and more, to the point that they weren't waking up on their own for days. It was mostly their body who woke them up, getting water or food, before crawling back into bed. When they went to a specialist, they said that it was probably the body recovering from the nearly two decades of them not being able to sleep. They often go on their phone before dropping off, listening to either "24hr Soothing Rain" or "Funny Fail Compilations".
