Tale of the Sacred Flower

A mournful noble, having lost his wife and child in the ancient war against daimonkind, once found himself unexpectedly blessed by a dying daimon who pitied his plight. He was gifted with immortality dependent on his care for a single, blessed rampion flower. Dedicating his life to its caretaking, he became a sort of hedge-witch, inhabiting a ruined tower surrounded by gardens in a reclusive valley. When a villager, desperate to save his dying pregnant wife, stole the blessed flower, the Sorcerer tracked down the man and made a steep bargain - their daughter in exchange for all the fruits they could desire from his garden. Desperate, the man agreed - and found that although the fruits from the strange, thorny vines were filling, they slowly poisoned them both to death.
Paranoid from the loss of his beloved flower, he shrouded his entire domain in choking vines and swore never to allow a mortal to step foot there again.
And somewhere in his dark, corrupt heart - he found a genuine love for the beautiful daughter he raised. A love that feeds his fear of losing her at any cost.
