>> SPECIES INFO:

Nymphs are perhaps the first example that comes to mind when talking about single-gendered species that rely on interspecies copulation for reproduction. Being all female, the Nymphs are smart, aquatic creatures who usually start looking for males as soon as they become sexually mature, trying their best to gather enough "seed" to give birth to new Nymphs. This means that their DNA is in some way dominant over that of most other species, which are merely used as a mean of genetic variety. Like other single-gendered species, the nature of their reproductive cycle has apparently favoured an evolution towards a great resistance to STIs, making them invaluable in the research of preventive methods or cures against such illnesses.
The base form of a Nymph is believed to resemble an anthropomorphic jellyfish, possessing a slimy, transparent boneless body with bioluminescent properties. Further investigation of their true appearance has proven to be a pointless endeavour: Nymphs can squish and morph the shape and size of their bodies dramatically, as well as inhale air to inflate themselves or parts of their bodies if needed, creating fake breasts in place of their non-existing mammary glands or sprouting new limbs/tentacles. Additionally, they possess mind-altering or psionic abilities that allow them to create illusions, further altering the perception of their appearance. As an example, here is a rundown of how a Nymph typically combines all her abilities to increase her chances of mating:

  1.  After spotting a potential male partner, the Nymph starts reading his mind while remaining hidden, seeking out information about the partner's sexual preferences
  2.  Having gathered enough information, the Nymph shape-shifts into the body type that best matches her partner's sexual preferences
  3.  To complete the disguise, the Nymph projects over her body an illusion in the mind of the partner, adding or modifying finer details of her appearance like smell, clothing, color and similar cosmetic details.

Outside of mating, the mind-altering/psionic powers of a Nymph are useful also for communication, since they can't speak or produce sounds normally, and for self-defence if needed. Although they can survive for quite some time on land (1-3 days), Nymphs remain aquatic creatures and will always need to go back underwater for both idration and breathing.
